I know I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record, but I’m obsessed with the Anine Bing Dylan coat. I can’t stop wearing it (or talking about it for that matter)!
I decided to do a round-up of the ways I’ve been wearing the Dylan coat recently – some new, some of which you may have already seen. But let’s be honest – this coat can seriously be thrown over just about anything – it’s truly a no-brainer to style.
A little about the fit…it is supposed to have an oversized look, and I think that it fits TTS (I’m wearing it in xs). However, if you’re between sizes or often size up 1 in outerwear, I would not recommend that with this coat.
It is made of a wool/cashmere blend that is soft to the touch and drapes beautifully. I adore that the sleeves can be rolled or scrunched up for an off-duty look. It adds a little edge and makes it less business-like.
Now, to the styling…
With a Blouse – Add Matching Accessories
Dylan Coat (TTS) | Blouse (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Similar Boots | Bag | Bag Strap
Here I paired the Dylan coat with my favorite Mother flares, a Fall blouse, and a dark brown bag and boots.
A style tip – I don’t ever like to look “matchy-matchy” but a style trick to make sure you look “put together” is to use at least two pieces that are matching (or similarly hued). Here – I went with a matching bag and boots. Below you’ll see other examples – all different, but each time at least two pieces will tie the look together.
We’re going to pull together an article on Fall blouses next week. I’m a lover of neutrals and I’m not a huge fan of prints, but in the Fall especially, I love to have one pretty printed blouse. The blouse I’m wearing here is by BA&SH, and I adore it. More soon.
The Jeans – on crazy crazy sale! But only a few size remaining. If these jeans are available in your size, do not think twice – buy them! I cannot get over the sales price. I did size up 1 – they are stretchy and comfortable but hold their shape. One caveat, they are long and I had to get them hemmed, but they are totally worth it.

A couple things here – one, I wanted you guys to see the back of the coat. I doubled the tie thru the loops since I was wearing it open, but you can easily wear it loose and tie it in the front. This also gives you an idea of the oversized nature of the coat.
And that side silhouette gives me all the heart eyes – I LOVE this coat over flares. Like seriously love.
Over All Black
Dylan Coat (TTS) | Sweatshirt (TTS) | Jeans (size up 1) | Boots (similar) | Bag
A camel coat is a great way to lighten up an all-black outfit. Here I’m wearing my go-to Rag and Bone city hoodie (one of my most-worn pieces…I wear this thing almost weekly). You can use this same concept with dressier pieces as well.
And Sale Alert!! This large Staud bean bag is on deep discount at Shopbop. I purchased it during the Shopbop sale (it’s even more discounted now) and have been using it daily ever since. It does need a bit of “fluffing” for lack of better description but once it breaks in – it’s perfect for everyday. It fits all my daily stuff with room enough for a beanie and gloves when we get to that.
Update: I recently purchased the Alex Mill Expedition jumpsuit in washed black – it’s my new favorite thing. The Dylan coat is the perfect compliment. See it here.
Make It Monochrome On Top
Dylan Coat (TTS) | Blouse (TTS) | Similar Jeans (size up 1) | Bag | Boots
I adore this formula – make it monochrome on top with a similarly colored blouse or sweater. Add jeans or trousers and contrasting shoes and accessories. So effortless and undeniably chic. I added black booties and a leopard bag but really any black bag would work.

Let’s take a minute to touch on this blouse by Frame – it is stunning and an absolute favorite. I will admit that I was slightly annoyed that it is not silk – why are all of these high-end labels using synthetic materials these days? I’m seriously about to research this. We are noticing it more and more. One thing I do enjoy is that synthetic fabrics don’t wrinkle as easily.
I will say that the quality, color and details make it worthwhile. While it isn’t silk – it feels and looks like silk. And those sleeves? They speak for themselves. There is also a side zip for easy on and off. This blouse would look equally amazing with dark denim, black etc.
I sometimes worry when wearing all lighter colors that I will look washed out (hello blonde hair and fair skin). My favorite way to combat this is by adding a bolder lip. Here I’m wearing red from Westman Atelier’s lip suede palette – my absolute favorite.
If you’d prefer a more dressed-down look, a camel sweater would work equally well. Here are a few that caught my eye…
Over A Dress
Dylan Coat (TTS) | Dress (TTS) | Boots
This look gives me all the Fall feels and is also perfect for the upcoming holidays. This dress – it’s $80! You heard that right. Gorgeous color, comfortable, forgiving, and it has pockets. Tammy ended up getting this one too. It’s just too good to pass up.
These are the Loeffler Randall Goldy boots in cognac that Tammy & I both have. We couldn’t recommend these boots more. They are truly timeless and the leather just gets better with age. They keep selling out, but Saks recently restocked them and *most* sizes are currently available. They are also running a promo right now – while you don’t get a percentage off, you will currently receive a $75 Saks gift card with purchase.
As far as sizing goes, these boots run TTS. Go with your normal boot size.
Super Casual for Everyday
Dylan Coat (TTS) | Sweater (TTS) | Similar Jeans (size up 1) | Bag | Boots | Hat
I talked about this 5-minute throw-on-and-go outfit in Instagram stories the other day. These are honestly my favorite types of outfits. The ones that are just as easy and comfortable to throw on as yoga pants and a sweatshirt but are also impossibly chic.
This look is made up of closet basics – a gray cashmere sweater, a go-to pair of jeans, and taupe boots. The key to building outfits is to invest in quality basics that you love to wear. Take an inventory of your closet and make a list of the gaps – start there. Maybe we will work on an article about the foundational basics that everyone should have. Truly – this is the key to easy style.
Let’s talk this hat – I’m obsessed. Obsessed. I’ve worn it 3x this week already. Am I a Yankees fan or even a baseball fan? Nope! But I love green and NY so there’s that!
As you can see, the Anine Bing Dylan coat is an absolute workhorse and closet staple. Literally throw this thing over anything and everything. I promise, it makes every outfit cooler and more chic. Don’t re-invent the wheel season after season with coats that you don’t truly love. Invest in pieces that make you swoon, and wear them for years. It’s ultimately better for your pocketbook and the environment as well.
Cheers,
Rachel

Please do a tutorial on how to double tie the strap in back. I’ve looked and looked but can’t find a demo on the internet. I like the coat, but the straps are way, way too long when untied. Thanks!
Let me try to do a tutorial soon!
