Our Anine Bing Love Affair + Favorite Pieces

Tammy & I realized that we both have been wearing (& coveting) a ton of items from Anine Bing, which isn’t a huge surprise as her brand is described as timeless with a rock-n-roll edge (yes, please!).

In a Vogue interview, she described her daily “uniform” as jeans (“I must have a good 20 pairs, even if I only really wear a select few”), a leather jacket, a t-shirt and boots. Hmmmm…no wonder we love her so much!

And her style advice:

“regularly sorting out your wardrobe, making space for new pieces. Good storage is essential, try sorting by garment, categorizing by colors and being really strict on yourself. A clothing error to avoid at all costs, is dressing for anyone but yourself. You need to feel at ease in what you are wearing, otherwise it will show.” (Gosh, we love this so much.)

Now, let’s talk about a few of our favorite pieces by Anine Bing.

Starting with the graphic tees…

Rachel – I’m a huge fan of graphic tees, and Anine Bing has been a favorite of mine for years. They are perfectly sized with a super high quality cotton that drapes just-so… And the graphics are cool and elevated (without making me feel like I’m trying to mimic my teenage daughters).

And I admit these tees are a bit pricey, but the quality and style stand the test of time. You will have these for years. And while they are “just t-shirts”, they are also outfit making and easily styled up and down. They are some of my most-worn pieces.

I have quite a few of her tees, but these are my newest additions…

White Tee (TTS) | Trousers (TTS) | Black Pumps (similar) | Leopard Bag | White Jeans (size down 1) | Metallic Pumps (old)| Bag

I love the mix of neutrals in this white tee  – it looks amazing with white, black, blue and here you can see how great it is with tan. While I love this tee, it is a bit different than every other Anine Bing tee that I have. The material is thinner and drapier – I think it was made as a Summer weight tee, which I really like. It does get knocked a bit in online reviews. However, quality-wise it has held up great for me (I wash on delicate and hang to dry as I do 99% of my wardrobe).

Sizing: Anine Bing tees are meant to have an oversized fit. I always take my true size and they are oversized without looking sloppy or overwhelming. There is also plenty of length to knot at the waist, which I love.

Black Tee (TTS) | Jeans (Size up 1) | Silver Bag | Silver Shoes

This washed black eagle tee is the perfect neutral tee heading into Fall and Winter. It goes with everything and the graphic adds a fun pop to an otherwise neutral outfit. The weight of this tee is in line with all other Anine Bing tees I have (with the exception of the white one above). I cannot recommend this one more.

The Best Tank

Tammy here! This is weirdly my first experience wearing Anine Bing. I have no idea why as I have drooled over her beautiful pieces for years. For some reason I just never took the plunge until now. I’m officially smitten though.

I wrote about the Eva tank last week in depth, here, but basically it is just the perfect edgy black tank top and I just feel cool wearing it. I’m longer waisted/larger busted (DDD) and there is plenty of coverage and length to tuck. I’m wearing my trusty Nippies, read about them more here, but you could easily wear a strapless bra without it showing (or maybe even a racer back).

An Effortless Button-Down

Button-downs are some of my favorite shirts on others, but they often have felt “not quite right” on me. In this case, I love both the cut and the color. I’ve already worn it as a “jacket”, buttoned-up, tucked in, not tucked in, you name it. There’s just something so perfect about the oversized, crisp and thick material, and my favorite part – the wide cuffs that are just so good.

I tried both S and XS and kept the XS as it is oversized without overwhelming my frame. Love!

Top (sized down 1 to xs) | Shorts (size up 1) | Birkenstocks | Bag

I threw this on in the early morning when I had to take the dogs out. It has that very easy way about it that I kind of can’t get enough of. Here I had only one button done up over Levi’s cut-offs and even my husband commented positively, which I call a win!

Bootcut Jeans

Rachel – we are loving all of the wide leg, flare and boot cut jeans this season. In addition to looking so fresh, these cuts are incredibly leg lengthening and flattering.

I have quite a few wide leg and flare jeans in my denim line-up already – the cut I have been after is a relaxed, everyday pair of bootcut jeans with a high waist. I saw this pair by Anine Bing and was immediately drawn to the wash (look closely for that permanent crease mark – it gets me every time).

Top (TTS) | Belt (wearing S) | Jeans (size up 1) | Bag

They are rigid denim but are described as having a slightly open weave which makes them so soft with zero break-in time. If you’re a fan of rigid denim, you know that this is not always the case. They are fitted and flattering on the bum but relaxed through the leg. And they look authentically vintage, which I love. They are perfect.

Sizing: I sized up 1 in these and am wearing a size 26 for a relaxed fit.

I plan for these to be my everyday Fall/Winter jean to pair with my lower heeled booties, sweaters and a belt. THIS will be my daily uniform. (Note: They are about 1/2″ too long so I am taking them to Nordstrom to be hemmed – free alterations as a Nordstrom cardholder, one of my favorite benefits.). Add any topper, swap out the tops and sweaters…easy, done and super fresh. Here’s a quick example.

Cropped Straight-Leg Jeans

A new favorite brand of jeans for me? The Anine Bing Gavin jeans have me smitten big time.

The first pair in my normal size 26 was crazy tight but I loved the style so I immediately ordered one size up in 27. When they arrived, I knew they were perfect for me in every way.

And don’t forget the most glorious belt for jeans. Not too wide, not too narrow, beautiful round silver buckle. It’s the first black belt I’ve actually loved to pair with jeans!

Outerwear

The Camel Coat

Rachel – I have been on the hunt for a camel coat for years. They tend to be either really fast fashion (I had this BB Dakota one in the past and it looked terrible after one season). OR very  high end and thousands of dollars. There truly isn’t much in between.

Enter this Anine Bing Dylan coat… Now, it is still an investment piece, don’t get me wrong. But we are not talking Max Mara prices either. The quality is amazing (it’s made of 90% wool, 10% cashmere) and the style – timeless and chic. I will be wearing this one for a very long time.

It is not lined which I actually prefer in a camel coat. I love the drapey look and the fact that the sleeves can be rolled or scrunched up for an off duty look. But trust me, it is plenty warm. It’s great for Fall with a tee or light sweater and on really cold Winter days, I will just add a thicker sweater.

Sizing: I am wearing an XS. Tammy also ordered this coat in a S and found it too big and is currently exchanging for an XS. So, if you’re between sizes, go with the smaller size.

A few quick selfies because it’s too dang hot for me to be outside in it just yet…

The Fleece We Are Coveting

This fleece – Tammy and I have literally texted it to one another a dozen times. The color, the leather accents – so so good. I caved and ordered it over the holiday weekend and it just arrived.  It is fleece material and has a polyester lining in black. It’s oversized but I didn’t feel like I was swimming in it.

Jacket (TTS) | Jeans (size up 1) | Booties

Is it worth it? Well, it’s admittedly expensive for a fleece. But I’ve also never seen a more chic and elevated fleece jacket. Living in Denver, I can justify this one but I think it comes down to your lifestyle. I would style this one with jeans or joggers and black lug boots. Or I would even throw this over a camisole in the Fall with a pair of jeans and pumps and call it a date night look. It is a stunner.

We love Anine Bing’s style – timeless with an edge. These are pieces that you will wear for years without fear of them instantly going out of style. And the quality is A+. Expect to see lots of styles by Anine Bing on the blog. We are both super fans.

Cheers!
Rachel & Tammy
