Favorite Fall Dresses For A Glam Dinner

These pictures are from our last night visiting Tammy & Evan in San Diego – we decided to wear our favorite Fall dresses and glam it up a bit.

We had the perfect Italian dinner at Seneca, which we we highly recommend. The food is amazing (the table-side mozzarella is a must) and the views of downtown and the water are spectacular. Saying goodbye is always so hard.

The Dress

This dress, oh how I love it. I actually bought it near the beginning of the pandemic, never expecting I wouldn’t have a reason to wear it for some time. But since things have opened up, I’ve worn it many times. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for this dress.

First, everyone should have pieces in their closet that make them feel incredibly pretty! Things you can put on and know your mood will be immediately brightened! This dress is all that for me.

And the color?! As a cool-skinned girl, jewel tones are my thing.

Okay so here’s the good news — I found it on deep sale on the Zadig & Voltaire web site. The bad news — it’s final sale. However, if you love it and think it’s worth the risk, it’s a fantastic deal! I am wearing size small here (I sometimes have to size up to M in Zadig dresses, but this one is roomy enough on me).

The Boots

Rachel and I both snagged these boots during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and they are so worth stalking. They have been going in and out of stock as returns trickle in, but so worth it if you can grab your size. I am normally 7.5 in shoes but always size up to 8 in boots and these fit like a glove in size 8. I love them so much I went back and grabbed them in black, too. The current sale price is ridiculous!!

The Bag

We both love our Cult Gaia bags, and for good reason…this stunner is only $88! I use it whenever I want to add something visually interesting to my outfit and it never fails to impress. I always have several people ask about it. It can also be hard to find, as it sells out regularly. If you want it, I highly recommend putting your name on the waitlist for notification.

The Dress

Everyone needs a black slip dress in their wardrobe – it’s the ultimate staple piece that can be worn year-round and dressed up and down (I even wear mine with sneaks). You can watch my Instagram reel where I styled this dress 5 ways in the Spring.

I love the length of this one and the conservative neckline – it makes it much more wearable for daytime. And guess what you guys – I machine wash it on delicate and hang it to dry. The material has a natural texture to it so it just works. After it dries, I do hang it in the bathroom while I’m showering or give it a quick steam. But no dry cleaning required – a total win.

Some sizes are sold out at both Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, so I’m linking them both here…between the two retailers all sizes are currently available.

Tammy’s slip dress

If you prefer a shorter slip dress, Tammy has and loves this one. It’s so beautiful and 100% silk. An investment but one that will literally never go out of style. And note, I’m shorter waisted longer legs and Tammy is longer waisted with shorter limbs (but those limbs are spectacular – haha). We have found that I do better with midi dresses and she does better with this length. Hope that helps if you’re debating between the two. And we are both 5’7″.

The Jacket

The Jacket (linked at several retailers below)

Tammy & I both have and love this jacket – see my article here. This was actually one of our first blog posts! It is soft and stretchy and looks amazing over just about anything. We love the utilitarian vibe that is offset by the feminine shoulder details – it is the perfect transitional jacket for Fall and Spring. And it does run TTS.

NOTE! I linked it several places – there  is currently a size Small left at Shopbop that is marked down AND included in the buy more / save more event that is currently happening. If you’ve had your eye on this jacket and are a size small, this is hitting the jack pot!

The Shoes & Bag
Both by Staud (a new favorite!)

Wearing a Vince black slip dress with a Staud olive bean bag and Staud black heels.

The Staud Heels

These shoes are currently included in the Shopbop Fall sale and fully stocked! I am in love with these things. They are a classic shoe but the buckle around the ankle makes them super special.

I am typically between a 6 and 6 1/2 and needed a 6 in these, so if you’re in between sizes definitely go with the smaller size. The heel is a little higher than I typically wear but something about the shape and thickness of it makes them surprisingly comfortable (and I’m a huge baby with heels).

My only caveat is that the ankle strap is not adjustable but that was not a problem for me at all – just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I highly recommend these!

The Staud Bean Bag

I love this bag so much. Green is majorly trending this Fall and it’s the perfect way to infuse green into just about any outfit. It is small though –  think clutch size. But the leather is the softest suede and the quality is off the charts. The strap is also removable.

My particular olive bag isn’t included in the Shopbop sale but the ivory, black and tan are included . I think all of these are solid choices.

The Larger Bean Bag

Does anyone picture an old school bean bag in front of the TV when they read this, or is it just me?!

This is one of the things I ordered from the Shopbop sale in the cognac color. I love the regular version so much I couldn’t resist trying it. I will update you guys when it comes in but it looks so gorgeous and perfect for everyday and evening as well.

I’m sure you guys sense a theme – we really do wear most of the same classic pieces over and over styled different ways – including these favorite Fall dresses. Investing in solids basics is the key to a good wardrobe. Then sprinkle your accessories and favorites trends on top!

Cheers!
Rachel & Tammy
