We are styling our favorite flare jeans, but first…
We are so very excited to be featured on the Not So Darlin’ Podcast! Our friend and host, Tonya Phillips, is as sweet and genuine as she is stunningly gorgeous.
When Tonya initially approached us to be on her Not So Darlin’ Podcast, our first thought was “Us? Why?!” haha! Turns out we had quite a lot to say. So much, in fact, that our intial introductory call which was planned for 15 minutes ended up lasting well over an hour.
After the actual episode was recorded, we decided we had to collaborate on an article together. Initially we thought we would all try styling up the new vest trend, but when Rachel and I just couldn’t find one we loved, we switched things up to something we all know very well – flare jeans (I mean, it just had to be denim, right?!)
Not So Darlin’
Tonya Phillips
I’m Tonya, a Kentucky-born model, influencer, blogger, podcast host, wife and teenage boy mom…whew!…who very often finds life ‘not so darlin’. But that’s OK because in my opinion perfect is LAME. I invite you to join me as I navigate being a 40-something woman finding her passions and purposes, while staying positive and always looking to grow, especially with my Not So Darlin’ podcast on which like-minded women and men share their own life experiences.
Jeans | Blazer | Tee (similar) | Boots
A cutting-edge Kentucky filly and our girlfriend Tonya Phillips knows how to work a flared jean, especially with a slit.
So why stop there? Pull on a pair of Western boots by Coconuts by Matisse and get ready to kick some style booty! Don’t get caught out in the cold November rain without this look!

This gal’s got STYLE and note the Zara high-rise slim flare jeans scream country & rock-n-roll rebel. All topped off with an Evereve sanctuary plaid blazer and Free People Guns N’ Roses tee.
Look for more on Tonya at her website or on Instagram, where we are always having fun together!
Rachel’s Take on Flare Jeans
Several people have asked us about flares “coming back” this season – or if they are still “in”. The short answer, YES flares are majorly trending right now.
However, in my opinion, flares surpass the rise and fall of trends. Flares are forever. So while they may come and go as the most “in” thing of the moment, they are worthy of a forever place in your closet. Trends be damned.
My Everyday
Jacket (size up, wearing 38) | T-shirt (TTS) | Jeans (size up 1) | Bag | Boots
My favorite pair of flares? These Mother Super Cruisers. They are ridiculously comfortable and stretchy, while holding their shape. I did size up 1 and had the length hemmed – I normally take my jeans to Nordstrom for hemming but any tailer can handle this.
I kept the original hem and altered them to a length that almost touches the ground when I’m wearing all of my favoite boots.
And how do I style them? Honestly no differently than any other pair of jeans.
Jacket (size up, wearing 38) | T-shirt (TTS) | Jeans (size up 1) | Bag | Boots
Here, I am wearing them with my go-to long sleeved t-shirt by Goldy. It’s the perfect long sleeved tee for wearing solo or layering under jackets. A quality short and long sleeved white tee are both closet staples. Our favorite short sleeved tee is hands-down the Anthony ATM boyfriend tee.
I topped it off with my ride-or-die Iro leather jacket and a Clare V bag – both of which I’ve had for years now. Black and white can be a little boring and uniform-like, and I almost always lean on this Clare V bag to bring it together.
This is by far one of my most-used bags. It’s currently on backorder but you can put your email in for restock notifications – it looks like that should be happening soon!
Dressed Up A Bit
Blouse (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Bag | Bag Strap | Boots (similar)
Same jeans – added a pretty Fall blouse. These are the perfect date night or girls night out jeans. I love how they add a bit of edgy coolness to a floral blouse. See my recent article where I rounded up all the pretty Fall blouses.
And did I mention that these jeans do amazing things for the bum? Ha! If you don’t have a pair of flares, I highly recommend giving the Mother Super Cruisers a try!
They also come in this gorgoue inky blue wash which would be so amazing to dress up for the holidays. I linked them at several retailers…
Tammy’s Favorite Mother Roller Flares
The other day I was thinking about how every time I want to wear jeans that are essentially the equivalent of joggers (in terms of comfort), these Mother Rollers are the ones. They are the most comfortable jeans I have EVER owned. They are just so soft and stretchy while also being stylish and chic!
They are also super flattering from every angle, if I do say so myself. These are the jeans that if they got destroyed somehow, I would buy them again, in a heartbeat!
These jeans mold to the body in the very best possible way. I’ve dressed them up, down, and every which way. They are just amazing.
My colorway is older and pretty much sold out, but there are some really good ones out right now. In fact, I’m contemplating getting this pair — I love a good dark pair during the winter and those front pockets are fabulous.
All the Mother Roller Styles
These are my favorites of what’s available right now. I did size down to 25, and Rachel also sized down to 24 in her Mother Rollers. I don’t know if they are all that way. I would definitely try your true size or size down.
Ramy Brook Black Blouses
I bought mine last year and is no longer available, but Ramy Brook blouses are my favorite and their black blouse material is divine. These are all the ones I love. I sized up in this top to Medium, so I would say if you are in between sizes, go up.
Ramy Brook has excellent free shipping and free returns and their customer service is top notch. I’ve returned and exchanged with zero issues!
The Silver Bags
I’m soooo sad that our silver Clare V. bag is no longer available. I’m linking other pretty silver bags. The Bottega is $$ but also so classic and stunning…wow!
The Shoes / Belt / Earrings
My beloved Weitzman heels are sold out in some sizes, but the Sam Edelman Yaro are an almost identical match! TTS and super comfortable.
Rachel and I both have this belt and LOVE it. It’s so good. We both sized up to M/L as it does run small.
And finally these sunglasses are my new favorites. They are so chic looking. And they also feel solid on the face and yet light. So glad I found them!
