These Levi’s Are So Cool My 18 Year Old Wanted Them!

Over the Christmas break, the Levi’s I had been eyeing went on sale for 50% off at Nordstrom. Honestly I didn’t have high hopes, but I was wrong!

When I showed the link to Rachel, she laughed and said something like “wow, this year has really changed you” because I would never have even tried these. Gosh she knows me so well!

So they arrived and my initial thought was “oh these so aren’t me”…and then I stopped myself because remember when I preached getting out of your comfort zone?! Yeah, sometimes I need to take my own advice.

Home from college, my 18 year old daughter can always be counted on to tell me the truth. She said she loved them. My question was “but are they okay for me?” because I knew that this style would look amazing on her but are they really okay on this 49 year old?

So I had an idea! I told her I’d buy her a pair if she would do a blog post with me about them. SOLD! I ordered her a pair, several sizes smaller, and this week we put them to the test!

How They Fit

Aptly identified as High Rise Loose, these are not your typical high rise jeans — these are Super High Rise at 13.125″.

Let loose with this modern interpretation of a classic ’90s style. This jean features a wide leg and flattering high rise. What does that mean for you? A cool, vintage-inspired style that gives you legs for days.

That rise seems a little intimidating, no? I have a long torso and even I can admit, these babies are high rise! But it also makes them fun and different. I wear jeans so often that I can get bored with the same old. I try to only buy new denim that is super unique and aren’t similar to anything already in my closet. These certainly are that!

I sized up to 27 (my typical for Levi’s) and Lauren sized up to 25. These are still a bit loose, as they are  meant to be, but they were definitely the right size for us both.

One hole I identified in my wardrobe in this process – I don’t have a ton of fitted or shorter tops. With such a high waist and loose fit, these pair better with a closer fitting top, so that was the hard part for me.

Side note: I can’t believe how much I’ve come to love Levi’s. It was only last April when I wrote about trying them again for the first time since I was a teenager. This is my third pair, now!

Levi’s For Day

I made this girl work for her payment! We coordinated two outfits each – one for day and one for night. Let me just say, it’s been so much fun having her living at home again, even if it is just for a few weeks.

I personally found the daytime look more challenging. You all know I love my Checkerboard Vans, but I wanted to make sure the combination of the jeans and sneakers wouldn’t come across as too young. So I tried to balance that with a slightly more sophisticated top and bag.

The daytime look was super easy for Lauren. This is so her style, and she paired it with a fitted crop top plus her Leopard Platform Converse. (She’s a huge Converse fan.)

We’ve also jumped on the Converse wagon…for more tips on how we are styling black Converse, this article shares all!

My husband said “do a Charlie’s Angel pose” to which she replied “I don’t know what that is”. I know a lot of you will get a chuckle out of that!

Levi’s For Night

This one was easy for me. I personally love how these jeans look with heels.

I can’t believe that a mere three years ago, we were all, almost exclusively, wearing skinny jeans! Feels like a lifetime ago. In all fairness, Lauren ditched skinnies before everyone else did, and has always just had an eye for style. She credits me with fueling her love of fashion, since I showered her in cute clothes from the second she was born.

Can I also just quickly admit how much I adore taking photos with this gorgeous girl? She’s currently getting her Nursing degree, and I couldn’t be more proud of her. I’m a lucky mama, that’s for sure.

And there you have it! The same Levi’s jeans we both have and love and we are 30 years apart. What do we think?

I’ve personally learned it’s fun to play with fashion and not to be intimidated by anything. By styling these completely different and more age-appropriate, I think they work! The key with anything like this is wearing it with confidence. I actually can’t believe how much I love them. And even more so, perhaps, because I shared this experience with my girl.

Shop our exact Levi’s jeans below. We both sized up, as we always do in our Levi’s jeans and shorts.

Special thanks to Lauren and hopefully she will join me again for future blog posts!
