A Casual 70s Vibe: Peace, Love and Sneaks!

Standing in front a Denver street art mural with my green Rag and Bone fedora and MOTHER Roller jeans.

This article is all about a casual 70s vibe, and I am so excited…let’s set the mood…start here.

If I had to pick my favorite decade for style (and music), it would without a doubt be the 70s. I love it all…the hair, bell bottom pants, frayed jeans, midi skirts, tie dye, peasant blouses, scarves, feathers and beads…I mean, can it even get better than that?! (I say no.)

Tammy and I recently discovered the MOTHER Roller Tomcat jeans, which have a decidedly 70s feel. They are wide legged perfection. They are also incredibly soft and stretchy (aka comfortable!) but hold their shape (and your stomach) amazingly well. We are head over heels about these jeans. They feel super fresh all year round –  but we are especially loving them for Spring and Summer.

They come in a ton of different washes as well. I will link mine as well as alternatives.

These jeans can be styled a million ways, but I decided to put a casual 70s twist on them…think sneakers and graphic tees! (My favorites)

A Casual 70s Vibe – Add A Graphic Tee

Same jeans, different washes:
We the Animals (Tammy’s pair – coming back in May… see them here.)
Totally Innocent (white)

My Pink Floyd graphic tee is long gone, but I have included a ton of amazing options below – all with a definite 70s feel.

Fleetwood Mac | MOTHER (Sale Alert!) | La Ligne | Annie Bing

Astars | MOTHER | The Band | La Ligne

I  have been eyeing the Fleetwood Mac tee (above top left) for ages and it is definitely the most similar to my Pink Floyd tee. I also recently ordered the Annie Bing tee (above top right) and am eagerly awaiting its arrival – it’s basically perfect. ALL of these tees are so good… I mean, is there really such thing as too many graphic tees?! (I’m addicted.)

A Casual 70s Vibe – Don’t Forget The Sneaks

Let’s talk about my Rag and Bone sneakers. I ordered these sneaks a few months ago out of sheer curiosity…I am a Rag and Bone super fan + I love retro sneaks, so I kinda had to! I had every intention of returning them because they are pricey for sneaks – but, big surprise, I was unable to part with them.

Wet from walking in the rain win my black Iro Haan jacket.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago – I walked to a local coffee shop to work on blog stuff and the day got away from the me….I looked up and they were closing. Also, it was pouring rain and my husband was stuck in traffic on the complete opposite side of town.

What I should have down was call a Lyft –  but I decided to suck it up and walk! 7 blocks in the pouring rain…in my Rag and Bone sneaks. The entire way home I was cursing under my breath and scolding myself – “THIS is what you get for spending too much $$ on sneakers, Rachel!”

(I’ve included photo evidence of this debacle  – blue lips and all…it was cold AND  raining.)

I sloshed thru puddle after puddle – made my way home, drenched, and just knew my sneaks would never be the same. I wiped them with a damp rag, and the results were stunning – they were LIKE NEW…like out of the box new! (Blogger fail – I so wish I had taken a before/after pic.)

So, if you’re like me and are hard on your sneaks or do a lot of city walking – THESE. They are worth every.single.penny. In addition to their durability, they are also amazingly comfortable. They are literally one of the lightest sneakers I have EVER put on my feet. They come in a ton of different colors as well.

If you’re still not sold, or if you don’t wear sneaks often enough to justify their higher price tag, I have included some seriously good options here…

Fuego (Willow) |  Fuego (Elm)

This is a newer to me brand –  and I am drooling. The color ways here are TO DIE FOR. The green has very limited sizes remaining but they were too gorgeous for me to exclude, so lucky you if your size is left (that gold accent is everything).

Veja | Nike

Pink Vejas? I mean, enough said. Perfect. And, I actually have this exact pair of Nikes (or I did, my teenage daughter stole them out of my closet – ha!). They are seriously good. I’ve had people stop me on the street to ask about them…and the price can’t be beat. You really can’t go wrong with this pair. There are also other good color options (just click on the above link).

Reebok | Rag and Bone

These Reeboks  are totally calling my name…the colors are so good, and I love the chunkiness. And these blue sneaks..my exact Rag and Bones sneakers but in an electric blue. Tammy loves these (and I do too!) –  super fun.

Swap the tee for a cami…

Hat | Cami | Jeans (sized down 1)  | Sneakers | Bag

Here I swapped the tee for a printed camisole for a slightly more elevated look that’s still very casual.  This is one of my favorite camis right now…expect to see a lot more of it. (I do need to have the straps taken up a bit, but that’s a super easy fix.) This is the perfect day to night outfit…just slip into heels, and you’re ready for dinner and drinks.

Oooh guys! My favorite hat is on major sale!

Hat | Tee (shop tees above) | Jeans (sized down 1)  | Sneakers | Bag

And oh my goodness you guys – score! The Rag and Bone hat that I’m wearing is on sale at the Rack. It does run small, I’m wearing a medium, so I would suggest that you measure and follow the size chart. (Rag and Bone hat at the Rack)

And that’s a wrap on a casual 70s vibe. While it’s basically just jeans and a tee – the cut of the jeans and the retro sneaks definitely add style.  And I would bet that most of you can throw this look together with items already in your closet.
