Casual Transitional Outfits for a Fun Day at Balboa Park

Wearing casual transitional outfits at Balboa Park in San Diego.

This past weekend, Tammy & I (and the guys) spent an afternoon exploring Balboa Park in San Diego. Gosh – what a stunningly beautiful place. We walked around, squeezed in a photo shoot, and relaxed with a beer and snacks. Such a fun day. It was rather warm but we still managed to feel fall-ish. These are the casual transitional outfits we wore that day…

Top (up to M) | Pants (up to 27) | Boots (up to 8) | Bag | Bag Strap | Sunglasses

J’ai rêvé d’amour – I dream of love.

This is the update to the Je Ne Sais Quoi Skinny Tee Rachel and I both have owned and loved for years! I’ve loved mine so hard, in fact, that it’s getting a little worn out. This one is actually a slightly thicker material, which I kind of love for Fall, though both are equally wonderful.

These tees are a staple for us, and an easy buy. You’ve probably seen us both style them a number of times here and here. They look cool with everything and are really great under a blazer.

We do recommend sizing up (I am wearing M), as they are a skinnier fit, and we both like a little more slouch. Currently on 25% off at both Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom (price matching here).

The Pants

Top (up to M) | Pants (up to 27) | Boots (up to 8) | Bag | Bag Strap | Sunglasses

We are clearly a little obsessed with corduroy pants this year (see our reviews of Mother corduroy here and here).

After Rachel got her brown ones, I became intrigued by the warm color, and I found this camel colored pair by Veronica Beard.

I’d be hard-pressed to say which are more comfortable between these and the Mother – they are both so good. I say pick whatever color you like best. Just be warned, all of our corduroy choices have been going in and out of stock, so if you want them and see your size, do not hesitate.

The Boots

Frame Le Lexington Chelsea Boots

Top (up to M) | Pants (up to 27) | Boots (up to 8) | Bag | Bag Strap | Sunglasses

Rachel bought the black Frame Le Lexington during the Anniversary sale (read more about them here) and loved them so much I had to try them.

Well, they certainly do not disappoint. I had been looking for everyday cognac booties for a while, and these are just perfection. I also tried a similar pair by Veronica Beard, and they are gorgeous too but have a bit more of a earthy/green tone, so it depends what you are looking for.

I sized up to 8 in these, like I do with most of my booties, but Rachel stuck with her normal size. They are on sale and low in stock.

The Bag & Sunglasses

Top (up to M) | Pants (up to 27) | Boots (up to 8) | Bag | Bag Strap | Sunglasses

Another reason I wish we lived in the same city – so we could share purses! Rachel brought her Clare V. foldover that she’s been wearing like crazy and was nice enough to let me take it for a spin. Oooooh, guys, it’s good! Like so good.

These foldover bags with the tabs are actually my new favorites. They are great when you want to carry them as a clutch, but I really love that you can attach a strap and turn it into a shoulder bag. It’s so comfortable but also so roomy! I definitely need to order this one for myself – it pairs with 90% of my wardrobe and adds the perfect edge to any simple outfit.

You all probably have noticed my love for sunglasses. I have ultra sensitive eyes, so I have to wear them most of the time. But I’m also huge on protecting your eyes, and why not do so in style?!

I also love how sunglasses can completely change a look. These are about as close to aviators as I will get. For some reason a traditional aviator doesn’t look good on my face, but I love these.

The Top –
Currently 25% Off

Wearing a black sleeveless theory turtleneck with Moussy Odessa jeans playing with dogs at Balboa Park.

Top (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Shoes (TTS) |Belt (sized up)

Tammy pulled this top for me when we were shopping – honestly, I would have overlooked it. It’s an amazing basic that is also super chic. I styled it casually here, but this top is effortless to dress up. It’s also perfect under a blazer.

I did size up 1 for a little more room – I don’t like anything to squeeze me – and it’s a very comfortable fit. I highly recommend this one. It also comes in white and a deep navy.

The Jeans

Top (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Shoes (TTS) |Belt (sized up)

Well, if you’ve followed us for even a few weeks, you’re bound to have seen these Moussy jeans. They are a favorite and ones that I reach for often. Are they stupidly expensive? Yes. Are they worth it? Well, it’s up to you and how much you wear jeans, I suppose. I live in denim, so over time, the cost per wear on these will be minimal.

Definitely size up 1 in these. They are rigid denim so there is a bit of a break-in period, but nothing too painful, I promise. After a few wears, they mold perfectly to your body. They have the best vintage wash and distressing. A year-round pair of jeans.

The Shoes & Belt

Top (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Shoes (TTS) |Belt (sized up)

These Rag & Bone booties are the perfect everyday boot. I wrote about them in our ‘Everyday Boots & Bags’ article, here. They are insanely comfortable with a 2″ heel, and are a beautiful camel that goes with everything in my closet. These will be good thru Fall and Winter and also make an amazing early Spring boot because of the lighter color.

And my belt was a Tammy recommendation. Honestly, I’ve never really been a belt girl, but Tammy convinced me to give them a try again, and well, now I’m sold. I find myself reaching for this one constantly. I did size up to the M/L (size 25 in jeans for reference), so it does run small. I do, however, prefer my belts to be on the longer side, so the S/M did technically fit. I just wanted more length.

Adding a belt makes my outfits feel more complete – especially when I’m wearing high rise pants with a shirt fully tucked.

My Bag (Borrowed from Tammy – we share!)

& Sunglasses

Top (sized up 1) | Jeans (sized up 1) | Shoes (TTS) |Belt (sized up)

I borrowed this bag from Tammy – one of her older Zadig et Voltaire bags. But lucky for you guys, there are some that are currently on sale! I had never tried Zadig’s bags and I must say, the quality really impressed me. Here are a few of our current favorites…

And my sunglasses? They are by Tom Ford and I’m in love with them. I have amassed a bit of a sunglass collection, but these have quickly become the pair I reach for most. I have a smaller face with higher cheek bones, and I often struggle with sunglasses sitting on my cheeks – if you have this problem, you understand what I’m saying. These do not do that.

They are super chic and just the right amount of oversized for everyday wear. They look amazing with everything. I am wearing them in the color Havana, but they are gorgeous in every color.

The Marla Aaron Jewelry…
You’ve been warned – it’s addicting.

Wearing our Marla Aaron necklaces in Balboa Park.

We would be remiss if we didn’t talk about our favorite jewelry — Marla Aaron! Rachel has been a super fan for a long time and she turned me into one very very quickly. I remember saying I didn’t wear bigger jewelry, haha, and now we have matching 22″ heavy curb chains, she with her R and me with my T. We wear our Marla Aaron every single day and it always feels special.

That concludes our casual transitional outfits from our afternoon in Balboa Park. More coming over the next few days with the rest of our weekend together – it really was so magical. If only we lived in the same city. In the meantime, we are already planning our next adventure.

Cheers
Tammy & Rachel
