I’ve covered this sale for several years, and last year I even worked at Nordstrom as a personal stylist during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. I learned a lot and I hope to pass my suggestions along.
ONE. Only buy what you NEED or LOVE. For me, a need is something I use all the time – beauty, pajamas, underwear, etc.
My point – you probably don’t need a winter jacket in July, so unless you can’t imagine living without it, WAIT. Chances are you’ll find something you love more or the item may even still be available down the road at a lower price (though no guarantees).
TWO. Don’t get caught up in “it’s on sale so I need it”. The last few years, people were really upset when those same Anniversary sale items went on even deeper sale two months later.
THREE. There are only a handful of things that I still have and use from previous Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I got caught up in the “it’s scarce so I must have it”. And then by the time the weather cooled off, there were new things I much preferred.
FOUR. Keep your tags on until you are ready to truly wear it. And make sure you try items on with at least three things in your closet. Ensure each item will integrate well with your existing wardrobe.

Slip’s Pure Silk Pillowcases & skinny scrunchie set. I cannot live without my Slip Silk pillowcases and now I need to buy one for my husband. I no longer wake up with pillow wrinkles and it’s much gentler on my hair.
Not on sale, but I also cannot live without my Slip Silk Mask. I am sensitive to light when I sleep, so this allows me to sleep even when my husband is watching TV, and the early morning sun no longer wakes me. Also great if I want to take a mid-day nap!
Oh! This Blissy set has everything at a great price and the reviews are amazing. I haven’t tried Blissy, but they appear to have the same quality as Slip Silk products!
TOP HINT!
Don’t buy Perfume sampler sets. Instead sample in-store and if you like something, request they make a sample for you to take home!
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Makeup Setting Spray is my absolute favorite and the only one I use. This is a good one.
I adore Westman Atelier products. I own all of these products in different colors. Westman makes some of my all-time favorite makeup!
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder is the only one my daughter uses. I’ve used it also, but I mostly use pressed powder these days!
I use mostly Sigma Beauty makeup brushes and they have never let me down.
For sunscreen, my daughter uses both Supergoop and Coola. I graduated to my dermatologist-recommended after skin cancer (article here).
Apotheke Charcoal & Sea Salt Grapefruit Candle Duo – these make a really wonderful gift (I used them as Christmas gifts).
GHD Soft Curl 1 1/4 inch Curling Iron – this is the only one my hair dresser recommends and I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale. This will be one of the few things I actually buy this year!
Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer – I’m cheating because this one isn’t at Nordstrom but it’s the best price with all the tools. I’ve been using this since my old one died in Greece and it’s a game changer. All my closest friends promptly switched as well!

The Bliss Plush Throw Blankets are, by far, the best throw blankets I’ve ever owned. At only $19.99 on sale, we own quite a few (for every room in the house). Also perfect for college dorms – my daughter has two on her college bed!
We have two dogs and a cat and while none of them shed, we have our share of vomit incidents and they wash and dry like brand new. Seriously – nothing destroys them!
I’ve had my Le Creuset Dutch oven since I got married, 23 years ago and I still use it weekly. One of the very best kitchen purchases I’ve ever made!
Barefoot Dreams throw blankets are next level if you want a thick, super soft, and cozy throw for cooler weather. Take note though, it can be really hard to get pet hair out of them.
If you have pups, I got mine Barefoot Dreams sweaters for walks and they are the best. Size up if between sizes as they are very forgiving.
I don’t know what I did before my Travel Jewelry Case. I always keep it in my carry-on backpack because I don’t trust checking jewelry, but I also love having a safe place to store my jewelry when I’m at my destination. Best purchase!

Active Wear
I went through everything and I didn’t have a ton of favorites. Certain things I love (Teva or Adidas Ultraboost) don’t have great color choices on sale so I say wait until they go on regular sale, unless you love the sale colors.
The biggest deal in the activewear is the large selection of Zella on sale. Zella rarely goes on sale and the quality is really good especially for the price point.

Denim
I have to start with denim, of course, and I’m keeping it to very minimal recommendations. I’ve sold all my more fitted jeans. Between changes in my body, and a preference for looser and wide leg styles, the following are the jeans that earn my top picks. My typical size in all of the below are 27, and generally run true to size.
MOTHER Jeans
Frame Jeans
I have Frame Palazzo in full length and they are dramatic! I’m intrigued by this beautiful crop version.
Rag & Bone
Finally, the Rag & Bone Casey jeans (I tried them in a different colorwash) if you are searching for a good flare jean.
Pajamas
The Nordstrom Moonlight pajamas are the only ones I wear these days. They wash and wear wonderfully and there are lots of new styles and colors – see them all here!
Bras & Underwear
I’m a big Natori fan and try to stock up when they are on sale. Sizing is very consistent. And my favorite high waist thong and perfect for holding everything in and still being comfortable.
Sweaters
I love Vince sweaters and their v-neck are the perfect slouchiness to dress down with jeans or dress up with pants.
Reiss is a favorite UK brand for quality and price. This cardigan has a unique style.
Tops & Jackets
From one of my favorite brands, Frank & Eileen, this hoodie is the perfect balance between casual and comfort.
I have had this Zadig & Voltaire Tink blouse for three years and it’s still going strong. A great date night top!
I still adore my L’Agence Janelle denim jacket and will always recommend it. I’m also super intrigued by this Rails fall coat which is in a favorite mint color that goes with almost everything.

Women’s Shoes
Along with every other section, my shoe picks are minimal. I hope this makes your shopping much easier.
Olukai makes my all-time favorite flip flops. I have several pairs and they all last me many years. I never have to replace them (which maybe isn’t so great for Olukai), but when you try them you’ll understand my love for them.
Everyone loves and asks about my very old Vince d’orsay heels. This Sam Edelman version is the best dupe for them and I’ve had many readers tell me they adore theirs.
Slightly different in style from my favorite sneakers, Reiss is now my top pick for white sneakers. I wear them everywhere including all over Greece! Perfect comfort with zero break-in time.
I have owned this exact Marc Fisher bootie for at least four years. They are still in perfect condition and are the most comfortable bootie ever. These brown Reiss booties are so similar to my favorite LaFayette boots bought two years ago and they go with so much. Gorgeous!

I usually drag my husband into a store every couple years for the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but I won’t even be in town to do that this year. Instead I’m just listing a few of his favorite brands and items.
Note: I’m not including links for jeans here. Men love their specific jeans and frankly, they know better than I do what they want. So I say if they need jeans, just grab the brand they previously loved.
Robert Barakett
Robert Barakett is a great brand for quality basics. They are super popular for their “not so basic” tshirts.
TravisMathew
A couple years ago he discovered TravisMathew clothes and became a super fan. The quality is outstanding and now they are the only shorts he wears!
Vince
Vince is one of my favorite brands for men (and women). The styles are classic and timeless.
Magnanni
This is my husband’s favorite brand for shoes and belts and has replaced all his old belts with these. They are the best.

I hope you will find my recommendations helpful. I kept my picks to only those items / brands I’ve personally used myself. There are many sections I didn’t include (handbags, for example) because I didn’t find anything I would personally buy. That doesn’t mean there aren’t good things included, it just means they aren’t things I would choose.
