Our Verdict On 90s Jeans

Trying on Re/Done 90s jeans with rips for spring denim looks.

Skinny jeans? Mom jeans? Boyfriend jeans? Flares?! We’ve got you!

Baggy, 90s inspired jeans…what fresh hell??

Our teen girls told us that these are “THE” denim trend of 2021 (as does social media). But we are in fact NOT teens – far from it. So, can we pull this look off? Do we want to pull this look off? We do firmly believe that style has no age. However, we also like to be selective when it comes to trends.

With all of the anti-skinny jean buzz (that’s for another day…) and all of the chatter about this particular style of jean, we felt that we had to check them out for ourselves. I mean, we have kind of made this our job, right?!

So, what’s the verdict on 90s jeans? Let’s see! (Spoiler alert…we love!)

Agolde 90s Jeans

Jeans (size down 1) | Camisole | Pumps (similar)

Jeans (size down 1) | Camisole (size up if between sizes) | Pumps (similar)

These jeans are described as mid-rise, however, they are very much HIGH rise (a 12.25” rise to be exact). We adore the super high rise, but wanted to clear up any confusion. These do run BIG…Tammy and I both sized down one (and they still have a little slouch). This is a great pair – you really can’t go wrong. They come in a ton of different washes with varying levels of distressing. Tammy and I love them so much that we each have them in white (another post coming on how to style white jeans).

GRLFRND Isabeli Jeans

Jeans | Camisole | Pumps (similar)

Jeans (size down 1) | Camisole (size up if between sizes) | Pumps (similar)

OK, these are sadly almost sold out but we had to include them because we are obsessed…they literally made Tammy dance. (Tammy, I think everyone needs to see your insta reel, just saying!) We love the distressing and the fit – they are slouchy but still manage to make the bum look good! They are killer dressed up, but I especially love them with sneaks and flat sandals. They are the perfect summer jean…fingers crossed they come back in stock in more sizes. We will keep an eye out and let you guys know.

We did find two alternative GRLFRND pairs at Revolve, and they are good…The Brooklyn High Rise (love the clean wash on these) and the Amanda Mid Rise. Both have seriously good 90s vibes. Also a quick note about Revolve – their customer service is top notch. They offer free two-day shipping and “happy returns.” You basically drop your return at designated businesses around town (unpackaged) and immediately receive your refund – it is amazing. In addition, they typically offer a good number of reviews on their products, so it’s a great place to check out reviews before making a purchase.

RE/DONE 90s High Rise Loose Jeans

Jeans (size up one) | Camisole | Pumps (similar)

Jeans (size up one) | Camisole (size up if between sizes) | Pumps (similar)

This is another pair that both Tammy and I have and LOVE…they are basically perfect. They do run small – we ended up needing one size up from our normal size. They are perfectly slouchy but fitted enough in the hips and bum to be flattering (and not frumpy). And they nailed the distressing on this pair – that knee rip is so good (also note that is is tacked to prevent further ripping, which we very much appreciate).

One thing to note is that they are indeed long. Tammy plans to chop off an inch (at home with sharp scissors – scary, I know). But I was able to keep the original length. They really shine with a heeled sandal or pump; however, they also work with a low heeled or flat shoe (but the bottoms will need to be cuffed). They make us look and feel taller than we are, which we kind of dig! If you’re going to invest in one pair of jeans to freshen up your style, THESE!

AG Knoxx

Jeans (size up one) | Camisole (size up if between sizes) | Pumps (similar)

AG used to be a go-to for both of us, but in recent years they have felt a bit boring…almost like they’ve been in a style rut with both cuts and washes. However, they knocked it out of the park with this fresh AG Knoxx style. The length is slightly cropped and they have the perfect amount of flare. This style tends to flatter and make your waist look smaller. AG is calling this boyfriend style….boyfriend, 90s, whatever…we love them!

Our Verdict on 90s Jeans?

Well, I’m sure it’s quite obvious at this point but…Our Verdict on 90s Jeans?  Hell YES!  We have fallen hard. They feel so fresh.  (I mean, maybe skinnies really are dead…or at least delegated to the winter months with boots? We have yet to decide.)  But we will say that after a year of joggers, it is much easier to slip into a comfy pair of jeans (versus a super restrictive pair). And we definitely think that these jeans are here to stay.

If you’re looking for an easy way to update your look, we highly recommend giving them a try. We added some additional pairs that we have been eyeing below, and we are going to post some pics this week of how we are styling them – so keep an eye out!

Cheers!
Rachel & Tammy
