The Super Elevated Ryder Fleece (by our fave – Anine Bing!)

Fleece jackets aren’t typically very exciting, but all that changed with the Anine Bing Ryder fleece jacket.

Rachel and I texted each other about it at pretty much the exact same moment, minutes after the email announcement came out. We were both a little gaga over it. I know, I know, you’re thinking…it’s just a fleece! We disagree. It’s a unicorn of a fleece that actually looks and feels stylish and can be worn both casually and dressed up.

We both ordered it, and secretly hoped we wouldn’t love it. We do that a lot. Order things to try out for the blog (and for ourselves) and cross our fingers that it’s bad so we can send it back. After all, we can’t possibly keep everything. Unfortunately, we both loved it. I loved it so much that I went through my closet and returned all the things I hadn’t worn and was on the fence about (including another fleece jacket) just to justify this one. I think I made the right decision!

We tried to split up by showing a few ways we’ll be styling this beauty. I haven’t had a ton of opportunities to wear it yet, because it’s been pretty warm in San Diego, but things are starting to cool down, so I’m excited.

The Ryder Fleece:
An Everyday Jacket

Jacket (TTS) | Jeans (mostly sold out) | Tshirt (TTS) | Sneakers (sized down to 7)

It is starting to get very cool in the evenings and my California girl is coming out. Out walking the dogs the other night, I declared I was “freezing” and one of my neighbors made fun of me! Mind you, I used to be a tough Alberta girl, where I would walk to work if it was warmer than -20C. I don’t know what’s happened to me!

In any case, this jacket is the cozy layer I throw on whenever my weather wimp comes out!

And also yay, it’s lemon and pomegranate season! As a kid, I would treasure the rare pomegranates I would get in Canada. Never in my wildest dreams did I think someday they would actually grow in my yard!

Sneakers and Tshirt Layers

Earlier this year, we posted our favorite sneakers after a full try-on and search, and my Reiss Finley sneakers are still my absolute favorite and I wear them all the time! They are ridiculously comfortable and I wear them with everything from dresses to jeans to black pants! Full sizes only, I sized down to 7 as they do run a bit big.

And now is the time I use tshirts under everything. We both love James Perse for layering, and while they are typically expensive (great quality), Nordstrom Rack is the place we buy our basics because the prices are a fraction of the regular price.

The Ryder Fleece:
A Casual Look

Jacket (TTS) | Top (size up 1) | Jeans (TTS) | Boots (size down 1/2)

This is the perfect casual jacket to throw over just about anything – jeans, sweats, leggings…literally anything. Here I paired it with my favorite Agolde Riley jeans (TTS). This cut is one of my favorite for pairing with lug boots and high top sneakers.

One of the things that make this fleece so special is the leather detailing – the front pocket is leather and there is also leather piping along the front zipper and the cuffs. Plus the olive color is simply stunning. And so while this is a very casual look, this fleece kicks it up a notch. It’s a fleece and boots but it’s also chic and edgy.

THE Lug Boots

Tammy  & I both have and love these Stuart Weitzman lug boots. They are seriously lug boot perfection. And they were made to pair with this fleece. We both sized down 1/2 size from our normal boot size and they are super comfortable and luxe. We will be wearing these all Fall & Winter – they are even great with dresses!

The Ryder Fleece:
Fancied Up With A Dress

Okay, believe it or not, this is how I’m most excited to wear this jacket – dressed up in an unexpected way. We both love juxtaposition in our wardrobes because life is too short to be boring with what we wear! And I love expressing my creativity through my clothing choices!

Jacket (TTS) | Dress (TTS) | Boots (sized up 1/2) | Bag | Strap

I’ve talked about this Michael Stars dress several times already, here and here, and I’m still not over it. I’m pretty sensitive about body-con dresses these days, but this one is very forgiving with the ruching, and I’m even comfortable wearing it on its own!

Jacket (TTS) | Dress (TTS) | Boots (sized up 1/2) | Bag | Strap

We usually turn photo shoots into date nights, and we love trying new places. San Diego has been killing it with all the new restaurants, and we headed over to Old Town to a cute little place called Tahona Bar that specializes in Mezcal, something I’d never had before. I had some kind of smoky margarita, and it was yummy! A cocktail makes photo shoots even more fun, ha!

My boots are mostly sold out, though they do occasionally pop back in stock after someone has returned. They are really incredible and if you find them, totally worth grabbing. My next favorite option is the boot Rachel recently bought, and they are also fabulous!

The  Ryder Fleece:
An Effortlessly Cool Evening Look

Jacket (TTS) | Jeans (size up 1) | Heels (if between, go with smaller) | Bag

This outfit is just me. I love contrasting a “fancy” piece (hello shoes) with a casual piece (I just threw this jacket on)…it always results in an effortless, cool and dare I say sexy look. And that green Staud bag? The perfect match for this jacket.

The Sexy Shoes

I’ve talked a lot about these shoes on Instagram – they are so good. If you zoom in you’ll notice the silver buckle at the ankle. It takes what would be a classic black heel up a notch – they are seriously cool shoes.

And while the heel is higher than I usually wear (I usually have a strict – nothing higher than 3″ rule), something about the shape and width of the heel makes them surprisingly comfortable and easy enough to walk in. I mean – they are clearly a date night shoe. But I feel steady on my feet in these – no bambi moments. Ha!

So as you can see the Anine Bing Ryder fleece isn’t just any old fleece. The details (and color) elevate it and make it super special. Throw it over anything during the week and dress it up in the evening. It’s spectacular.
