Casual Little Black Dress - Michael Stars Racerback Midi

A Casual Little Black Dress – And It’s Only $88

I am a fan of the casual little black dress. It’s easy to wear at any time and can inspire you when you are feeling very uninspired.

I spent months looking for a new casual little black dress, but somehow they all fell short, mostly because they highlighted parts of my 49 year old body I wasn’t interested in highlighting.

I’m actually happy with my body, though. I work out regularly, I eat what I want, and I am not aiming for perfection in any way, shape, or form. I’m also not interested in clothes that make me feel bad about myself!

Enter the Michael Stars Racerback Midi. Our friend, Jess Dreyfus @jessdreyfus, shared her love for this dress, and she swore it was amazing.

Now that I’ve had it for a while, I have to agree. Midi length dresses aren’t usually as flattering on my shorter legs. Jess has it in petite which is the perfect length for her. Since I have a long torso, I was worried the fit wouldn’t be right on my body, so I ordered the regular size small and had it shortened by Nordstrom alterations (included as part of our Nordies rewards…a service I love)!

I’ve been wearing this dress in place of shorts, jeans, whatever! It’s so easy to dress up or down! I recently tied a graphic tshirt over it (another Jess inspired idea!) and I love it. I’ll come back soon and post some of my favorite and easy ways to wear this dress.

Best of all, the ruching makes me feel very confident in it, not worried about my imperfections. I didn’t wear a spanx here (it was hot and I didn’t want to) but of course that would have smoothed things out even more.

The slight cut-in is so similar to my Anine Bing Eva tank (read about it here) that I couldn’t not love it! It’s just so flattering! I think everyone should at least try this type of top.

Have you been looking for the perfect casual little black dress? If so, this one is a solid pick! Available in both regular and petite sizes and multiple colors. And of course, I wore my Nippies which for me feels almost like going braless, and who doesn’t love that?!
