What to Wear for the Holidays – We Got You!
Every week we will post a new article with all the best new additions for the season. Check our entire Holiday Style section here!
ALSO! Don’t miss our top affordable picks, at the very bottom, by the amazing Vince Camuto, who always does fabulous and affordable holiday attire!
We love shopping for holiday clothes and accessories. There’s something magical about dressing up for all the holiday events – maybe even more so this season after all the cancelled events last year.
(Note that we are working on a separate article for all the fabulous shoes, bags, and accessories. Look for that to come out really soon!)
You’ve all seen many of our recommendations sell out quickly this past year. There have been many reasons for this (covid restrictions, shipping delays, low staff, limited production, etc.) Unfortunately this is only rumored to worsen as we head into the holiday season. This means when you see the things you love, snap them up immediately. DO NOT WAIT!
We find it easier to return something that doesn’t work than be disappointed by a favorite item that you simply can’t get.
What to Wear For the Holidays
All The Reds
I’m usually partial to bordeaux and burgundy, but a good red can make such a statement at this time of the year. But gosh, it can be so hard to find.
The Long Sleeve Silk Blouses
Frame came out with their holiday tops a couple weeks ago and we both immediately hit buy on this 100% silk red blouse. It’s all kinds of amazing and the color is one of those rare beautiful true reds that you almost never see. I tied it in a bow here with my hair in a messy bun, but this also looks so cute untied and hanging loose!

We both tried this with denim for an edgier, dressed down look, but it also looks insanely good with black pants and heels. This is a total classic, sophisticated holiday blouse. I sized up to a medium and that was the right call for me! (A size small was perfect for Rachel.)

The Camisoles
We love to put these under a black jacket or even a pretty soft cardigan. You don’t need to deck yourself out in holiday colors to be festive. A little can go a long way.
Show a Hint of Skin
This Murphy top is a Ramy Brook classic, which they make it in multiple unique colors each season. I’ve had this fuchsia version for at least five years and worn it countless times…for dinner dates and dressed up for more formal events too. It’s a statement and looks amazing on everyone – it’s one of my all-time favorites.
I am wearing my old faithful Nippies here, because I always prefer them to a strapless bra when I can!
Top (TTS) | Jeans (sized up) | Heels (TTS) | Bag
And remember the gorgeous bag I threw in stories last weekend? This is it, and it’s beyond glorious. This is the bag you’ll see me carrying all holiday season. And it’s not at all snaggy, either. That’s one thing I’m super sensitive about. We buy beautiful clothes and don’t want to worry about our bags snagging the fabrics! This is one of my most exciting purchases lately.
The shoes are my trusty Stuart Weitzman NearlyNude suede heels that I’ve had forever (truly). Not only are these shoes comfortable enough for me to walk in a good bit, but they are also sexy. Love them!
How About A Dress, Skirt or Pants?
These make our heart skip a beat. We both have the Ayla dress (styled here) but this bordeaux color would be such a stunning addition to a holiday wardrobe. Rachel has ordered the pants and we are waiting with baited breath. They look uh-mazing. And that skirt? I mean wow!
Perhaps Just A Sweater!
There are many times where I just want to wear a sweater and pants and call it a day. These can be worn throughout the season and will look great dressed up or down!
What to Wear For the Holidays
Green With Envy
I typically invest in a pretty new holiday top every year, but always pull out my previous year’s tops so I have plenty of choices (we do a lot during the season and I like to mix it up). This is the ba&sh Paris top I bought several seasons ago and I plan to wear it throughout this season. While this one isn’t available, we’ve found other amazing options and promise to show you anything new that shows up on our radar!
We’ve shown a few green dresses this past month and either of these would be really fabulous for the holiday season (including Thanksgiving). How about this Emerald Midi dress by Staud that Rachel recently wrote about? It’s stunning. For the holiday season, we’d switch the brown boots for pretty heels.

Then there’s this under $100 dress that we both bought (Rachel snagged it first…she gets the credit for this amazing find)! Read all about it here!
What to Wear For the Holidays
Black, White or Silver?
No one says you have to wear the traditional colors. The classics can make such a statement. Especially when you add a little sparkle with accessories. Sometimes these are my favorite outfits, and of course you don’t have to keep them just for holiday time!
Frame Does Classic Very Well
We’ve been smitten by Frame’s offerings lately. Practically everything they’ve been doing is so good. This is the first year they’ve been high on my radar!
Pretty Details
Again I have to include my Ramy Brook Murphy top, here in black or ivory. It’s that good!
We also love Nordstrom’s house brands. They always put out some unique and quality pieces at a great price point!
The Special Sweaters
I absolutely adore that crewneck sweater with sequins, but that open shoulder version is also so pretty and I would wear that all winter long!
A Jumpsuit, Skirt, Pants
Sometimes the simplest chic styles are the best. These pieces basically speak for themselves!
Don’t Forget the Power of A Slip Dress!
Many of you probably already have this in your closet, but if not, I’m including links for both our favorites plus a few other more affordable options from Banana Republic (they’ve really stepped up their game lately, call us impressed). We promise to style ours all the ways for the holidays to give you ideas on how to change things up a little!
What to Wear For the Holidays
The Purples and Blues
Stand out in unique pretty winter colors that you can also wear all season long. These are all pretty dreamy, but that Alice & Olivia Harmony dress makes my heart skip a beat. I will be considering that one myself, especially if we attend any Gala events this year! Rachel is eyeing the blue Veronica Beard and I am nudging her to try it…sorry, not sorry!
These are the beautiful blouses that call my name. I tend to love beautiful jewel tones in fabrics with a little shine for that extra something special during the holidays. These colors are wearable all season long though, so that’s a nice bonus!
What to Wear For the Holidays
Don’t Forget the Coats!
I don’t need another coat, but gosh why am I always tempted by them all? Seriously though, with most of our events being held outdoors this year (thankfully warm enough in San Diego), I’m wearing coats way more than I ever have before and finding so many darling options that work all season long and for many seasons to come!
What to Wear For the Holidays
Vince Camuto
Top Affordable Picks!
Vince Camuto is one of our favorite go-to’s for affordable picks for what to wear for the holidays. We mentioned earlier in the week we were going to start adding in some lower price points when we deemed the brand to be of good quality, and Vince Camuto certainly qualifies.
Don’t forget that many of these picks come in multiple beautiful colors. This time of year we really adore the beautiful jewel tones but anything goes nowadays!
My Favorite (but selling fast)
This has the most amazing shape, color, and style. I hope someone can snag this before it sells out!
This Sweater – LOVE!
My second favorite choice, those sleeves are just stunning and I bet would make anyone stand out in the best possible way.
All the Pretty Blouses
This is Vince Camuto’s major offering – pretty blouses. So many choices here and don’t forget to click on each one to see all the beautiful colors.
For the Sequin Lover!
I know you’re out there. My sensitive skin goes crazy under sequins, sadly, so I always sit this one out, but it sure does make one sparkle and shine!
Stand-Out Bottoms
Both of these are all kinds of wow! I’m actually super intrigued. The pants remind us of the Alice & Olivia pants we posted above at a fraction of the cost.
And that’s our first stab at what to wear for the holidays. We wouldn’t normally put this out quite so early, but we are already seeing things sell out (that red Frame silk blouse, for example, is selling FAST)! We plan to continue updating this post throughout the season so keep checking back. And again, if you see something you love, DO NOT WAIT. It may not be there next time. That’s the sad truth of shopping right now, including the grocery stores and toilet paper, it seems!
And don’t forget to check out our entire article on Accessories / Shoes / Handbags / Makeup / Jewelry. It’s a good one!
Plus! We will be putting together style guides for how to put everything together, how to shop your closet, etc. Phew, we’re tired already, haha!
