Dark Blue Bottoms Are A Chic Fall Update – Styled In 6 Color Tones!

I wear a lot of dark blue bottoms in the cooler months. The richness just give me all the Fall and Winter feels!

For this article, I am wearing dark blue Mother Hustler corduroy in colorway Night Sky, however this formula works equally well with any dark blue bottoms (for example, denim, velvet, twill, or silk).

My pair is selling out fast, so if you are considering them, run! I will also link all my other favorite dark blue bottoms at the end of this article!

It was gloomy and dark all weekend. A huge difference from last week when it was 100 degrees! This is Fall in San Diego. We will have a bit of back and forth for a while.

It was so dark, though, that I had to get out of the house. We decided to head over to an upbeat local winery — The Bernardo Winery, if you’re ever in the area! Super fun. The most exciting part? It was chilly, so I was able to dress in pants and a sweater for the first time this season!

I hope to convince you that dark blue bottoms are as versatile as black pants but with a little extra pop of color!

For A Monochromatic Look

With A Denim Jacket

Dear L’Agence denim jacket…is there anything I can’t wear you with? I’m a big fan of pairing it with dark blue bottoms though, as it’s just so interesting. In a recent article, I paired this same denim jacket with dark blue denim and you’ll see that it works just as well.

With Light Blue

I wear a lot of blue, and I love the soft contrast of wearing light blue tops with dark blue bottoms. It’s one of my favorite combinations. Dark blue bottoms pair equally well with both tan and silver shoes and accessories.

Both of my sweaters appear to be sold out (purchased during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale) but I’m including all my current favorite light blue selections from Nordstrom.

With Dark Blue

You can even pair dark blue bottoms with dark blue tops, as long as you add in a little pop of interest. In this case, I added silver accessories for the first style, and camel accessories for the second.

Some of my favorite navy tops below. My Zadig & Voltaire Tink Tunic seems to be currently sold out in navy, but it is a staple for them, and they rotate colors every season.

Also, my coatigan from Jcrew is mostly sold out, but they have a lot of great alternatives and they are currently up to 40% off. I sized down to XS in mine.

With White Or Ivory

I absolutely adore the strong contrast in pairing dark blue bottoms with white or ivory tops.

This would also work with a white tee and sneakers, if you want to dress it down. Again, I paired with silver accessories and shoes which has a similar tone to white or ivory.

My Minnie Rose cashmere off the shoulder sweater is old but still available. It is one of my absolute favorites of all time! I am wearing an XS here, so it fits more TTS to slightly oversized, unless they’ve changed their sizing in the last couple years. It also comes in multiple fabulous colors.

However, I have found another wonderful option, and look for a full review of this brand on Thursday. I’m super excited!

Favorite white blouses including my Reiss Dottie top (TTS to slightly large, wearing 6) from the spring are below:

With Pink or Fuchsia

When I was a little girl, pink was my favorite color. I had pink bedding, a pink room, pink clothes…basically pink everything. To this day, I still love pink and fuschia, and I think it pairs especially well with dark blue.

Here I’ve shown how the texture and style can easily dress down or up any pair of dark blue bottoms.

I paired them with heels, but I could just as easily have paired the first outfit with a much more casual or flat shoe or bootie. I promise to show more options throughout the season!

My sweater is an old Zadig & Voltaire, but here are a few of my current favorites:

My blouse is the Ramy Brook Murphy blouse, which is a staple of theirs, but they do different colors each season. It’s a favorite and I believe this will be my fourth year wearing it! This is my go-to brand for fabulous “night out” tops. They are elegant and classic and feel great on the skin. I go between small and medium in their tops, depending on the style.

With Grey and Silver

I’m a big lover of neutrals, as you guys probably already know. In this case, I love the simplicity of dark blue bottoms with grey or silver.

For the first outfit, I paired a taupe bag and shoes to add a bit of interest. For the second outfit, I love the different fabrics (silk camisole, cashmere cardigan), and enjoy the monochromatic feel of pairing silver accessories here.

My Ba&sh Marisa top is on 50% off final sale at Ba&sh, but Nordstrom also has in limited sizes and they will probably price match. I am wearing in Small as I found it to run on the roomy side.

My Zadig & Voltaire sweater is old (sensing a pattern here? ha!) but I’m linking my current favorite from Naked Cashmere — look for my full review on this brand Thursday. Also, there are a few sizes left of my silk camisole bought during the Anniversary sale (I sized up to M).

With Earth Tones

This illustrates how dark blue bottoms pair equally as well with earth tones as it does with grey and silver.

I like the extra texture of the wood Cult Gaia Mini Ark, but I could have also paired this with a cognac bag.

My Vince cardigan is a favorite – I love the cropped style with high waist pants and jeans, but I’m also loving the tan version of the Naked Cashmere. I’m telling you guys — you’re going to love this new brand!

With Green / Holiday Tops

I’m a big fan of green and it’s also really super trending this year, which I love, because it’s not always widely available. I bought the second top a few years ago for a Christmas party and it’s still one of my favorite pieces which I will absolutely be wearing again this year (and no worries…I’ll be searching for something equally as fabulous for you guys, when the holiday stuff starts rolling out)!

Both of my tops are older and sold out, however we will be posting more green top finds as it gets closer to the holiday season!

And honestly, I could have kept going. I believe that dark blue bottoms would go with pretty much everything in my closet. I promise to share any combinations I put together, for more inspiration.

I desperately hope that Mother replenishes these in more sizes, because these are the quintessential dark blue bottoms for Fall and Winter. However, I have scoured the Internet searching for alternatives and I’ve broken them down by pants and dark denim. I’m hoping you can find some inspiration within these options, and maybe even better, you have a lot of these options in your own closet. We highly recommend shopping your own closet first!

Dark blue denim options that we love! Notice that the Mother Hustler also comes in multiple colors and materials.

I never thought of myself as a corduroy lover, but I’m now a convert. They are soft and luxurious and just scream Fall and Winter.
