A Denim On Denim Look For A Relaxed Holiday Vibe

A denim on denim look for an unplanned day of holiday shopping and dinner…

My favorite parts of the holidays are often unplanned. The hey guys – let’s grab Chinese food and walk around the Christmas market. I think it’s the lack of expectation. The ease of it. The teenagers piling into the car in their oversized sweats complaining (can’t we just order out…we aren’t in the mood) which slowly softens into laughter and conversation. The spontaneous, imperfect moments are always my favorite memories.

Wearing a denim on denim outfit with a camel coat by Anine Bing for a casual holiday vibes.

Like the evening, my outfit was casual. I love a denim on denim look but don’t often think of it in the colder months. I was surprised by how festive this felt though – I think it was the added mittens, beanie and red lips.

Similar Mittens & Beanie

When it comes to beanies and mittens – it’s like your bag and shoes. They can match, but they don’t have to… Just think of your outfit as a whole. Here, my mittens are coordinating with my other accessories (belt and shoes) and my beanie is the same color as my coat.

The Red Lips

I feel like I talk about this lip palette daily – I love it that much. I know it’s pricey but I’ve had it since the Spring (or early Summer) and I’m not even close to “hitting pan” as our beauty blogging friends say. It’s so versatile and universally flattering. Tammy is loving it too. And truly, red lips can make an outfit – especially this time of year.

THE Denim Shirt

This Frank & Eileen denim shirt is pricey but unlike any denim button down I’ve ever worn – it’s crazy soft (ZERO stiffness), drapey and has the coolest distressing. It looks like a vintage shirt you’ve had for years – it’s incredibly chic and one that will last a lifetime. Above is a picture of me wearing it over the Summer, so you can see it’s truly a year-round piece.

It’s honestly the details of this shirt that make it so amazing. If you zoom it, check out the cuffs – they are seriously perfect. And in the Summer photo, if you zoom in you can see the distressing around the hem and the intentional wrinkling. It’s so dang good.

When I wear denim on denim I feel the most me when the denim washes are similar but not exactly the same. So, no stressing over matching the washes perfectly – it just needs to be close enough. And then, I piled on all my beloved neutrals of course.

My Bag & Coat

My Clare V bag is one of her mainstay bags and probably the most versatile bag I own. It magically ties tans, blacks and whites together so that a mix of neutrals feels purposeful. It was out of stock for a while but finally back! It’s 100% worth it. I’ve had this bag for years (I’ve lost count at this point), and it’s still one of my most reached for…

And my Anine Bing coat – I feel like if I talk about this coat anymore you guys may seriously lose your minds. So I won’t. I think it’s obvious how much I love this thing. And if you’ve missed my previous ramblings, check out this post where I styled it a bunch of ways.

Cheers to spontaneous & imperfect moments,
Rachel
