Have you ever wondered how to style down a slip dress? We’re here to tell you it’s so much easier than you think!
Remember when Rachel styled her Vince slip dress 5 different ways? If you haven’t already seen it, go watch her reel now! It shows just a few of the ways to style down a slip dress.
I’ve been on the hunt for an amazing slip dress for a while now. I actually tried on Rachel’s Vince dress and while it was fine on me, it didn’t wow me, even though it’s perfection on Rachel. But why?
While we are both 5’7″ and appear to be somewhat similar in body types, I am longer waisted with shorter legs and she is shorter waisted with longer legs. When it comes to midi dresses, this makes a pretty big difference because the longer midi dresses appear matronly on my shorter legs while they look amazing on her longer legs.
Additionally, I am a true hourglass whereas Rachel is a little less curvy. That means that I often have to size up to accommodate my bust (32DDD) which can make the rest of the dress hang more like a sack on me.
Enter the L’Agence Jodie Silk Slip Dress. It is slightly shorter and cut for a curvier more hourglass figure. Quite literally it is the perfect dress for my body type. It also has that gentle v-neck for a more flattering fit on a bigger bust. And yep…I wore my new and ever favorite Nippies!

Now this dress is definitely an investment piece, but I plan to have and wear this many times over many years, therefore I believe that the price per wear will be pretty low.
Last Wednesday was our 22nd anniversary. My husband made reservations at a restaurant by the coast which he said was fabulous but not overly dressy.
Rachel and I believe in having “Fewer Better Things” but also to wear your clothes!
By simply adding a denim jacket, you have a completely new silhouette that feels fresh and casually chic. I love pairing nude accessories with black, and my very affordable Vince Camuto heels and Cult Gaia bag are the perfect additions. This is a great way to style down a slip dress!
My other critical point is comfort. Can I sit in it? Move around? Is it tight or restricting? It checks all the boxes.
You can see here that the length is just below the knees, which is much shorter on me than the Vince slip dress, and therefore much more flattering on my shorter legs.
I also appreciate that the straps are adjustable and that the back is not so low cut that you can’t wear a strapless bra. I have worn this dress with both a strapless bra and Nippies. Both work well but Nippies are my new favorite option as it just more comfortable and seamless.
We both believe that a slip dress is an essential in every woman’s wardrobe. This little black dress is so incredibly versatile and you can wear it so many different ways, that you will never get bored of it. Plus, you will always have that fabulous dress for whatever needs or events arise!
How about that denim jacket? Rachel has had hers for a long time and I just HAD to have it…it’s that good. I’ve had and tried denim jackets before and they always fell flat for me. This one is everything I ever wanted a denim jacket to be!

The material is so soft, the color is insanely gorgeous and looks especially good with dark colors. I also love that the cuffs and waistband have been cut off, making it easy to fold over and pull up. I love the fitted silhouette so much. It comes in a lot of different washes, but Sonora just beats them all for me! One of the favorite things in my wardrobe and absolutely my favorite way to dress down a slip dress!
