I’m going to show you a seriously stylish outfit formula for Spring. This is a combination I’ll wear a ton, and you’ll see that an easy swap of shoes takes this from look from daytime casual to evening. I love to have quick outfit formulas in my back pocket to take the thinking out of getting dressed.

1 – The Blouse (under $100)

It all started when Tammy posted about her gorgeous Paige polka dot top (above right) – you guys went crazy over it, and so did I! It was very much a Katie Holmes inspired look, and well, she’s basically my style icon. We came across this Kut from the Kloth (under $100) blouse that looks almost identical to the one Katie is wearing, and I knew I had to try it.
It does run a smidge small. I suggest sizing up one from your normal size, and I think you’ll be happy. It is sheer as you can see from my photograph, which I sorta love. I am happy to wear a black bralette under it for a little added sass, but if that’s not your thing, it would look equally great with a fitted black camisole underneath.

What To Wear Underneath?
This is a topic we get asked about quite frequently, and we plan on writing an entire article on this soon. But for now, with a sheer black blouse, this is my advice. For a more conservative look, add a fitted black camisole. And if you don’t mind showing a hint of skin, I’d add a pretty lace bracelet.
Confession: I just did a major closet clean-out and threw out my lace bracelets that were worn to shreds, so I’m about to do a bra shopping trip. These are the two I’m most interested in trying.

2 – Updated Denim
Want to update your look? Start with your denim! Looser denim styles are here to stay, and we hate to say it, but skinny jeans are taking more and more of a back seat. We aren’t saying ditch your skinnies, but try venturing out just a little. It will instantly make your look more current.
The jeans I’m wearing are the MOTHER Tunnel Vision jeans, which Tammy has as well. They are a rigid denim but fit TTS and are comfortable. They are surprisingly flattering and easy to wear with any shoe from heels to sneakers as seen in this article.

MOTHER Hustler jeans have become a go-to jean for me, and they are flatting on just about everyone. I love these so much I have them in white, washed black, and regular denim. If you’re not quite ready for a really loose, wide leg silhouette these are the perfect compromise.

3 – Add Some Color!

This year is all about color, and we are here for it! Another way to easily update your Spring/Summer wardrobe is to add one colorful accessory, and we highly recommend either a sandal or a bag.
This emerald green Clare V. bag is breathing life into all my Winter outfits right now, and I’ll be carrying it all Spring and Summer too. It just sparks joy! It fits a small wallet, phone, sunglasses, lipstick, keys – with a little room to spare.

Swap Those Straps!
I love to swap the bag straps on my Clare V. bags for different looks. This thick chain strap is one of our favorites and dresses the bag up a bit. I also love the black tubular strap when I’m in the mood for a shoulder bag vs crossbody. These straps are such a great investment because you can use them with all your other bags too! They are so worth it.

4 – More Shoe Talk
Here I wanted to show how this look is effortlessly changed from casual to ready for a night out by a quick change of shoes. Any black pump or heeled sandal would look great with this look. And we both adore a clean white sneaker with a baggier jean. Something about it just feels so fresh. 5 – Top It Off!
My Iro Han leather jacket is an investment piece for sure, but one I’ve been wearing for almost 4 years (and I won’t be stopping anytime soon). For me it is a 3-season piece. I wear it over sweaters when it’s really cold out, and also t-shirts, blouses tanks, and dresses.
It definitely runs small, especially if you want to wear it over sweaters, so I suggest sizing up. I’m wearing a size 38 (normally an XS/small, size 2) for reference. And note that the leather will stretch/mold a bit with wear.
My Top 3 Spring Jackets
Year after year, these are the three jackets I wear most in Spring, and they’d all look great with this outfit. My trench coat is old and long gone, but this one looks pretty. I’ve been wearing the L’agence Janelle denim jacket for a few years now, and still love it so much. I am considering this oversized one by Anine Bing to add to my arsenal. And another option is the Levi’s trucker jacket, which I also adore.
