This past Spring I discovered Westman Atelier makeup and it’s now completely taken over my makeup bag – it is quite simply the makeup of my dreams.

About Gucci (the Founder of Westman Atelier)

When I first discovered Westman Atelier makeup, I went down a rabbit hole of makeup tutorial videos by Gucci. (And I now refer to her as if she’s a good friend – she totally mesmerizes me.)

She impressed me with her ease of application and the way she talks about makeup – describing it as enhancing your skin (versus covering it up). Her approach to makeup is a minimalist, natural approach that I adore.

She has more than 20 years of professional experience as a makeup artist and has created looks for many celebrities including Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Westman Atelier – The Ingredients

Westman Atelier makeup is clean and free of the following: parabens, sulfates, PEGS, phthalates, formaldehyde, mineral oil, BHA+BHT, hydroquinone, mercury, gluten, and silicones. And there is zero animal testing.

What is in the makeup? All the good stuff! These products not only make you look good, they also nourish your skin with caper extract, jojoba oil, vita grape extract, berryflux vita extract, camellia seed oil, coconut oil, cocoa seed butter, mango seed oil, capuacu butter, cold pressed cherry oil, marula oil, vitamin E, sunflower seed wax, rice extract, carnauba wax, peptides, mica, shea butter, and plant-based seed oils.

The Prep

I will diverge from Westman Atelier for a minute to talk about my quick prep before the actual makeup. After washing my face, I always use a Vitamin C followed by sunscreen. Living in Colorado where it’s extremely dry, my skin loves extra moisture. I have found that mixing a few drops of facial oil with my sunscreen works wonders for keeping my skin dewy and hydrated.

Also, as we get older, too much makeup under our eyes can actually make us look older by settling into fine lines. This eye cream does not do that. It is light and moisturizing and leaves you looking fresh and bright. It’s a top 5 beauty product for me.

Now for the Westman Atelier Makeup…

I am listing these in the order that I apply them but there are no rules. Gucci actually encourages you to play with the order of application and says that all of her products enhance one another and can be layered.

1 – Beauty Butter

Beauty butter is a matte bronzer – I use the color Coup de soleil. I have never used a bronzer before this product as they are typically glittery or much too dark for my fair skin. This product is extremely subtle and natural looking – adding just a touch of warmth. Gucci describes this product as breathing life into your skin and I couldn’t agree more.

Per Gucci’s video, I only apply to the top half of my face and include my eyelids and under my eyes. Side note – if you want to skip eyeshadow, it adds a little color to your lids or serves as a great base to reduce shadow creasing.

2 – Eye Pods Eyeshadow

I have both color ways of these eye pods and they are all I wear now. For a quick daytime look, I often just swipe on a bit of the color tabac to my eyelid and then highlight under the brow and tear duct with the color neige. For evening I will amp it up with some of the darker colors. They are all gorgeous and effortless to apply.

I typically just apply these with my fingers with the exception of the color noir that I often use as an evening liner (note that it is a subtle smokey black – not a harsh black). The eye pods aren’t a true cream but they definitely aren’t a powder either. Gucci describes them as having a play dough consistency which is probably the best description. They are unlike anything else I’ve ever used.

3 – Baby Cheeks

I am in love with these blush sticks and personally have 4 colors: petal, couchette, minette and bichette. Dou Dou is next on my list. I want them all – ha! It is a multi stick that can be used for lips and lids in addition to the cheeks. I have tried a ton of blush sticks in the past and baby cheeks are hands down my favorite. (I gifted all of my others to my teenage girls and now I exclusively use these.)

The color bichette is a stand out favorite that I would have been nervous to try without watching Gucci’s videos as it looks really dark online. She describes it as leaving a natural flush which is exactly what it does. I especially love it with a nude lip for a natural, everyday look (I use the Westman Atelier lip gloss in the color Nana, more to come).

At the end of this article I include a few Gucci videos recommending lip color pairings for baby cheeks, which I found extremely helpful.

4 – Contour & Highlight

Contour – I use Face Trace in the color biscuit. This is the first contouring product I have ever used. Again, I’m not a huge makeup person and honestly contouring has always seemed a bit intimidating to me. This product makes it insanely easy. You can obviously go crazy with your jaw line etc, but I typically just use it under my cheeks to enhance my cheek bones. It takes seconds and makes a serious difference. Like all of her products, it leaves an extremely natural finish.

Highlight – I use Lit Up in the color Lit (the clear version). This may be my favorite product in the entire line. This is THE secret for that dewy, glowing look. I use it on my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose, cupids bow, and occasionally even my eyes. If you try one product, make it this and thank me later.

5 – The Mascara

This is the best clean mascara I have ever tried. It lengthens and thickens without clumping or flaking.

And if you’re like me and your lashes aren’t as lush as they used to be, I swear by Revitalash (a non Westman Atelier product). I have been using this for a couple years now, and my lashes have never looked better. I apply in the evening as part of my skincare routine. Once you get the results you are looking for you can use every other night to maintain.

6 – Last But Not Least – The Lips!

Lip Suede

Wearing the black LNA tank with Redone jeans in washed black and silver Veronica Beard heels.

The Lip Suede compact is an absolute show stopper. The colors are so stunning and universally flattering. If you’re not used to wearing a bright lip, I know these can look a bit intimidating. But trust me – as a non-makeup person, they are so incredibly wearable.

You can use a lip brush for a bolder more defined look, or simply use your finger for a more pressed-in, subtle look.

In the picture above I’m wearing the tomato red color. You can see that it gives a little pop but isn’t overly aggressive (I did blot it here). Style-wise I am very into neutral colors and a bright lip takes a simple look up a notch.

And the brilliance of a bright lip – you really don’t need much else makeup wise. In the picture above, I am not wearing any eye makeup (other than mascara) and let the lip color stand on its on.

Squeaky Clean Lip Balm

Gosh, I have about 5 of these. They are luxurious and a lip treatment + color all in one with organic jojoba, almond and argon oil + shea butter. I wear these everyday and sometimes over the lip suede colors at night.

I love all of the color but a few of my favorites are:

-Nana: A cool beige. This is the best color for a neutral lip. This one is always in my bag.
-Pipsqueak: This is a great pop of color and I love to dab it over the tomato red lip suede color at night if my lips need added moisture.
-Chou Chou & Nou Nou – These are just great for everyday subtle color.

Mixing and Matching Colors

I know I’ve added a lot of videos here, but I had to include these. If you’re like me, colors can be confusing. Which blush and lip looks best together? One of the things I’ve learned from watching ALL the Gucci videos is that mixing cool/warm colors is key. So if I’m wearing a warm blush, I try to pick a cooler lip color and vice versa. I thought I’d include a few of her videos here with her recommendations because I found these so incredibly helpful.

Westman Atelier is the makeup of my dreams – there is no going back for me. These products are so luxurious and simple to use, and it makes me feel good knowing that I’m using clean products that nourish my skin.

I love having the confidence to mix and match different color palettes based on Gucci’s recommendations – it’s totally taken the guesswork out of makeup for me. And the results – the perfect glowy, no-makeup natural look.
