We can happily report that not only are colored jeans in style, they are exploding all over Instagram. And not that we follow every trend (far from it, in fact) but this is one that we are all in for.
The association between brightly colored clothing and happiness is not new; in fact, the idea of instilling joy through what we wear has a name – ‘dopamine dressing‘ – and has long been the subject of psychological research.

And whether we know it or not, dopamine dressing has an effect on all of us, even those who “don’t care about clothes”.

The MOTHER Swooner Rascal high waist jeans in colorway Flame Scarlett recently showed up online and when we saw them on actress Monet Mazur, it was all over. Can you blame us?! She’s stunning in every way, and apparently loves MOTHER denim as much as we do. Sold!
Initially we thought these might be strictly Spring and Summer jeans, so we both styled them multiple ways. I’m in California, Rachel is in Denver – so no matter your climate, we’ve got you covered. At the bottom of this article, we put together a Summer style board featuring these jeans and also promise you’ll see more of them.

Being the California girl that I am, I wear sandals almost year round. And sandals with a sweater is my absolute favorite. Especially right now with the weather going back and forth. This week it’s rainy and 30s-50s, and last week it was in the 80s. So yep, I’ve already started wearing sandals, and there are some really amazing choices right now. (More below.)
This sweater is all about dopamine dressing! I styled it a few different ways in this article and it’s a perfect complement to these jeans! TTS – I’m wearing size small.
With Sandals
I will be wearing these jeans a ton with sandals. Last week I wrote about the new Patricia Green Hallie sandals (a perfect Hermès Oran dupe) and they are ridiculously good.
When we decided to go for drinks and dinner at a local winery, I swapped my flat sandals for the most gorgeous cork heels.
The new Paige Niko heeled sandals are positively dreamy, and they are also perfectly walkable. After dinner, we walked many blocks to get ice cream and nary an issue. We’ve included them as a top pick in our Best Summer Sandals 2022.
And I have to give a shout out to Little Fox Cups & Cones in Encinitas, CA. I ordered the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with sweet corn cream + caramel + honeycomb and I cannot stop thinking about that crunchy goodness.
These shoes are so good and they are already selling out quickly on Nordstrom.com, but they are also fully stocked at Paige. I sized down to 7 as they run a smidge long.
For Date Night

It’s so easy to take these jeans from day to night with a simple swap of accessories…our favorite thing! I think my husband believes me to be a Child of Wild. Before we got married, my mom asked him “are you sure you can handle her?” He never stops reminding me of that fact with a simple “well, your mom warned me…” Hey, at least life with me is never boring!
With the Cult Gaia Mini Ark

The Cult Gaia Mini Ark is one of our top ten best purchases of all-time. Last year it sold out several times and a lot of you were disappointed when you were unable to find it. Well it’s back and we couldn’t be more thrilled. If you are interested, I would jump on it. I’ve used this affordable bag (only $108) more times than I can count!

Rachel’s Take (Denver Style)
Tammy and I both ordered these jeans almost immediately when we saw them. I’m very much a neutral loving girl but when it comes to color, my two favorites are an orangey red or a pretty green. I literally gasped when I saw these jeans and had zero resistance.
Like Tammy, once the weather warms up I plan on wearing them on repeat with a simple white tank, sandals, and our favorite Cult Gaia bag. But for now, I wanted to style them a bit more seasonally appropriate. Denver still has snow on the ground and while the temperatures are slowly trying to bounce up, it’s decidedly not quite Spring here.
With a Dash of Black + A Denim Shirt

Adding black is the perfect way to tone down the Summer vibe of these jeans for right now. We were having a beautiful sunny day (before the Winter storm we are currently experiencing) and instead of a coat, I opted for my favorite Frank & Eileen denim shirt. One of my favorite purchases of 2021, and one I’ll be wearing for years. Also see it here and here. I adore that that this look is perfectly appropriate for now but gives a subtle nod to Spring which is just around the corner (fingers crossed).
With a Dash of Black + A Trench Coat

In my opinion, there is no better transition piece for Spring than a trench coat. It just makes everything better, and these pants are no exception. My trench coat is old and long gone, but J.Crew recently just released a new Icon trench and we have heard good things.

This is how we’ll be wearing these jeans as soon as warm weather hits. If you have tropical vacation plans coming up, this would also be an amazing look. It seriously doesn’t get any easier than this.

This green pair also seriously makes us swoon! If orange isn’t your jam, this pair is worth a look and also $100 less. We love these so much. Tammy tried them on in store and they do run a bit small, so size up 1 for sure, and 2 if you want a looser/baggier fit.
