A few essentials in my closet are the Veronica Beard Scuba Blazer, mother denim, Rag and Bone boots, and the Anthony ATM tee.

A Few Essential Pieces In My Closet

You can read a full review on the Veronica Beard Scuba Blazer, but for today, I wanted to talk about a few essential pieces in my closet.

We talk a lot about this, but wardrobe basics – or foundational pieces – are where we believe in investing our money. These are the pieces that get worn over and over again. And without these pieces, a wardrobe simply doesn’t work. Everything else is just gravy (the Southern in me coming out)…or sprinkles on top.

A Few Essential Pieces in My Closet:

  1. A black blazer – The Veronica Beard Scuba Blazer is our top pick! We are doing a full review later this week including a round-up of alternatives at different price points. But a black blazer is an absolute must-have. I wear a size 2 in the Veronica Beard – TTS for me.
  2. A good white tee – Tammy wrote about this last week, here. All white tees are not created equally, and this is a piece that gets worn so much – all year long. Our #1 pick is the Anthony ATM Schoolboy tee. TTS.
  3. Denim – You know we love our denim, and everyone needs a few quality pairs. A lot of my jeans were feeling tight (mid-40s body changes, which I’m choosing to accept with grace vs beat myself up over). I added a few new pairs because I just can’t do too-tight jeans. These jeans are the most comfortable things ever – like pajamas, I promise you. TTS.
  4. A taupe/camel bootie – One of my most-worn shoes three seasons of the year. I adore these Rag and Bones. The perfect color and heel height and they’ll last for years. They look good with just about everything too.
  5. A belt – We highly recommend adding a few belts to your wardrobe to finish off your looks. This Rag & Bone boyfriend belt is my most versatile and the perfect match to these camel boots. No need to stress about your belt and shoes matching perfectly though – as long as they’re in the same wheel house OR your belt coordinates with other items you’re wearing, you are all good.
  6. My most versatile bag – I’ve talked about this bag a few times, like here in my ‘What I Packed for NYC’ article. This is my most versatile bag year round (for 3 years+ now). It’s magic.

The Sprinkles:

The sprinkles are the extras – the things that give your outfit a little interest and make it fun. The sprinkles to this outfit are the super cute Rag and Bone hat which comes in a ton of colors. The most comfortable hat I’ve ever worn – I’m eyeing a fresh color for Spring and Summer, but this one is great year round. Also, my beloved Marla Aaron jewelry, of course.
