My Favorite Reformation Dress…That I Finally Got To Wear!

I finally got to wear my favorite Reformation dress that I bought over a year ago…it’s classic Reformation, a style that has been around for years (and I don’t see it going anywhere, anytime soon). It comes in multiple colors and patterns, which are continually being updated with each new season. It is classy, sweet, sexy, unique…all of the things at once…it is quite simply, perfect.

Reformation has become super popular in the past few years, but if it’s a new-to-you brand, you can read their story here. They started as a small California brand and have completely taken off – they are also committed to sustainability, so you can feel good about purchasing from this brand.

I bought this dress for a specific occasion – our 18th wedding anniversary dinner in NYC last year.  We had been planning on a week in the city with our kids…Airbnb booked, flights scheduled, travel guides poured over, reservations made…you know the drill. Well, needless to say that trip and anniversary dinner never happened.

I’m almost positive we grilled steaks and drank wine in our joggers instead  – believe me, I’m not complaining. I have a feeling that once we’ve had a little time to recover, we will look back on this past year and realize that while it held an enormous amount of heartache, there were also blessings sprinkled in…

Time to slow down, time to actually stop. Family dinners – card games – movie nights. Sleeping in the same bed as my husband for uncountable nights in a row – he travels a ton for work, and it was quite literally the most consecutive nights we have ever spent together. It was (mostly) glorious.

And while there was so much quality time and memories made, we are definitely ready to embrace life again. We are vaccinated, and we are feeling optimistic and ready to re-enter the world.

We booked our birthday dinner (we are 2 years, 1 week apart) at one of of our favorite restaurants – To the Wind Bistro in Denver. It’s a tiny (think 5ish tables) farm-to-table type of restaurant, and most definitely, the nicest dinner out we’ve had since Covid struck.

As I was going thru my closet deciding what to wear, I found my favorite Reformation dress. It had sadly been hanging in my closet, tags attached, with nowhere to go for over a year…I knew I  was wearing it. And I can’t even describe all of the feelings I had when I put it on…sweet relief (we have freaking *almost* made it thru a pandemic guys), joy for a night out, sadness for what was lost over the past 12 months. It’s crazy how many emotions can be attached to a thing, right?

(Note that this dress is only available in limited sizes right now – but I assure you, more will be restocked. I will keep an eye out and notify you guys. I will also link my favorite Reformation dresses at the bottom of this article…there are so many good ones!)

I intended on wearing this dress with heels, the obvious choice, but my husband (John…from now on, he’s John!) gave me the raised eyebrow look…we were walking to dinner after all. So, last minute, I kicked off the heels and slid into vans. I actually love this look. Adding sneakers is the perfect way to style down a dress – and definitely makes it more Denver approved, where everyone is mostly casual.

Now, let’s talk about that slit…I love it. I think the conservative cut of the top balances it out. But, if it’s too much for you – which I get, it’s such an easy fix to have a few stitches added.

And we can’t forget the back – that cutout is everything, and makes the dress so special.  It really is a show stopper.

Our first “big” night out after 12 months of (mostly) date nights on the sofa was amazing. And while I know the pandemic is not totally over, I am feeling hopeful. I’m also feeling incredibly grateful – all of the the things that we took for granted before, suddenly feel special.

I have a heightened awareness of how amazing life is…and I’m ready to start living it fully again. It reminds me of one of my favorite songs by The Wood Brothers, “Sky High”…my favorite line being “there’s something about how the lows tell the highs how to be.”  You can listen here. (And here’s hoping for a few outdoor concerts this summer!)

I am really picky when it comes to dresses and honestly don’t have many. But this is definitely my favorite Reformation dress and one that I will be wearing for a very long time. Like I mentioned, this is a Reformation classic, so while sizes are limited now, I expect that more will be restocked, and I fully expect new colors/patterns to be released for Summer…I will watch and post when they do. I will also link some alternatives below…there are some really good ones!

Cheers to nights out (again)!
