Reformation Sizing Review + Favorite Pieces

We have been huge fans of Reformation for some time, but we know that ordering online can be intimidating. So I went to the new local store, tried on a load of stuff, and I’m here to do a Reformation sizing review, plus recommend my favorite pieces!

Inside the Reformation Store

Rachel and I have been ordering from Reformation online for a few years, plus Nordstrom usually has a limited selection in store to try. A brand new Reformation store recently opened at the Westfield UTC mall in San Diego, CA, and I finally had the opportunity to go in.

Oh.My.Goodness. This store. I was so smitten with it, that I had to put together an Instagram reel to give a peak into this high tech shopping experience. Friends, if you are lucky enough to have a Reformation store nearby, GO!

Reformation Sizing Review
Alyssa Patch Pocket Jeans

I had never tried Reformation jeans prior to this, but I had been eyeing these Alyssa Patch Pocket High Rise Wide Leg Jeans for a while.

Because I was unsure of what size to get, I stupidly never ordered them. Instead I tried pretty much every other front patch pocket jean out there. All of them fell flat on me. So my expectations for these were kind of low. How wrong I was!

Generally I am a 26-27 in all other premium denim. These are a perfect fit on me in size 27. And guess what? They are only $128!

Here I styled them with our very favorite Stuart Weitzman Norah lug boot. This was my first time wearing them with a wide leg cropped jean and I think it’s such a fresh combination. Plus it was a rare cold San Diego day and these were both comfortable and warm.

✅ Style Tip
Go From Day To Night

Our favorite tip for going from day to night is to simply swap your shoes. Because San Diego is so spread out, when we go out for the day, I plan ahead in case we want to do a nice dinner. A simple swap of shoes and I’m ready for date night!

Cowboy High Rise Jeans

I also tried the Cowboy High Rise jeans we recommended in our article Are Colored Jeans In Style? I tried size 27 in Emerald and they are definitely more fitted than the Alyssa jeans I took home.

In their notes it says the black and emerald run big, but I didn’t find that to be true in the pair I tried. Honestly with the baggier style more popular these days (plus we are kind of over tighter jeans), I’d even consider sizing up 2 in those (to 28) for a slouchier fit. They are a rigid denim though, which often takes a little break-in time, so it just depends on the fit you are looking for.

Fitted Tops

Those of us who are bustier or have wider shoulders sometimes find fitted tops to be the hardest. I’ve discovered this is an area where Reformation shines.

top (up to 8) | jeans (up to 27) | heels (tts) | sunglasses | coat (similar) | bag

I usually get pictures of the back of an outfit but somehow we missed it this day…apologies! Instead let me just say that most of their fitted tops have a smocked elastic back and wow, what a difference! Reformation is now my new favorite brand for pretty fitted tops. I mean seriously…this is a game changer for me.

Did I mention I wasn’t even wearing a bra? Ummm yeah, that in itself is kind of a miracle. When you get the right size, these tops fit so well and hold you in perfectly…without being too tight. I may need an intervention for all the cute tops!

I will warn that these particular styles do give some cleavage. I’m so not used to that! I usually do everything I can to hide cleavage. But, sigh, these tops are so cute I’m willing to overlook it. Rachel always teases me to stop complaining about these things…I think it’s a case of “the grass is always greener…”

In all the fitted tops I tried, 8 fit me perfectly. I usually have to go up to 8 or medium in fitted tops so this was definitely true for me. What was especially nice though was that it fit me all over thanks to the the smocked back! Often I have to size up to accommodate the bust but then it’s too big everywhere else.

I also ordered tried this store in size 10 but ordered it in size 8 to be shipped. I love it! And of course I’ll provide a full review once I get it!

And you can see the smocked back on this top and why it’s so easy to get the perfect fit!

These are all the tops I tried and loved. They all fit similarly, size 8 for me, except the Barry which was a little more fitted in the bust.

Dresses

Okay, confession time…I’ve now been into the store twice in just over a week. In my defense, I had to go back to get a few more videos for the reel, and of course I had to try a few more things on! And the salesgirls remembered me and called me by name…now that’s good customer service! Of course this doesn’t bode well for the bank account, but I digress.

Rachel and I have both waxed poetic about our Gavin dresses here and here, and I also tried a cute sundress last summer with review here.

Linen Dresses

Reformation does linen really well. It’s one of our go-to places for amazing linen pieces.

I tried (and loved) the first dress in white, size 8. My husband said it looked too wedding-ish but I thought it was sweet and romantic. It also comes in navy and I might order it to try. I will be putting videos in Instagram stories of all my try-ons!

The other two are similarly pretty and romantic all at once. I need to decide which one to order, because I love them all almost equally.

TENCEL Stretch Dresses

I tried the Cassi in black, size small, and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s seriously so sexy and stunning and the epitome of HOT. It is very fitted and bodycon and it definitely will show any lumps and bumps. I wasn’t wearing a spanx during try-ons, so there was no smoothing at all, and yet I still love it and will probably try it again.

For the bodycon dresses, I generally don’t size up…because I want it to be perfectly fitted and hold me in a little.

I’m also very tempted by the Rou dress, though I didn’t see it in store. In the same TENCEL Lyocell stretch material, it has the flowy skirt so probably more forgiving. If I order it to try, I promise I’ll report back!

Final Thoughts

These are my general overall thoughts on Reformation’s sizing, though keep in mind there is some variety among materials and body types. Also know this is just my experience and your experience may vary.

  • Jeans: Size up 1 (27 for me). Cowboy I might size up 2.
  • Linen tops and dresses: Size up 1 (8 for me).
  • Stretchy tops and dresses: True to size (small for me).

We also appreciate Reformation’s mission to bring sustainable fashion to everyone. Read all about their sustainability practices here.

Cheers,
Tammy

  1. Thanks for this!
I bought the Gavin dress after reading your reviews and it fits better than I expected 🙂
My only doubt is: Can I iron it? Have you tried it? I bought it online and it’s all wrinkly…

I’ve only read on their website than you can iron some reformation items on the lowest level, but it sounds scary…

    • Hi there! So glad you love it as much as I do! Ok so I actually steamed it easily and without issue! If you don’t have a steamer I highly recommend one! I haven’t used my iron since I got it. Make sure to use distilled water so that you don’t get build-up or water drops in your fabric! I don’t even travel without my steamer now. I just bought an affordable travel one from Amazon and it’s been amazing! Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for reading!
