Comfort clothes are like comfort food — you NEED them in your wardrobe. Especially when it’s hot and you don’t want anything tight or restricting touching your skin!
August 1 hit and with it came the heat. San Diego has probably the best weather in the US, but our summer heat doesn’t really hit until August and then it sticks around until November.
So right when everyone is shopping for jeans, sweaters, and boots (my favorite!) it’s hot here. I HATE being hot!
I lived my first 27 years in Alberta, Canada. Summer there is pretty much July and August and then September is sweater weather (love)! However it also often snowed in October, so…
Well this weekend it was 95+ and for some reason we decided to clean up the furniture on the back patio at 4pm (yes, rolleyes)! This included moving everything away from the house and pressure washing everything. Can you say sweating, miserable, and low blood sugar? I almost fainted but told my husband…okay we need to photograph this reality, ha!
During these months, I have a very basic wardrobe consisting of comfortable stretchy shorts and very basic tanks and tees. Nothing else will do when I’m hot and (let’s admit it) cranky from the heat.
Comfort Clothes – Shorts
Earlier in the season, I ordered at least ten pairs of soft stretchy shorts to try. Every single pair immediately went back except these Vuori shorts. They were the only ones that fit the bill of easy, comfortable, stretchy, soft material…basically a pajama replacement.
I am wearing the first pair in size small (size up if you would prefer a roomier fit — these are not overly loose on me). They are very similar to the Performance Joggers we all own and love. Rachel owns the second pair (Sunnyside) and says they are also amazing. Definitely the next pair I plan to try. Keep in mind these are short though!
Comfort Clothes – Tops
For tops, I prefer basic tanks or tees that wash and wear well and are super comfortable. I would recommend sizing up for all of these for a roomier fit. I didn’t in the Agolde tank (wearing S in picture) and I should have but it is a thick ribbed material so I’m also fine with it more fitted.
Comfort Clothes – Shoes
My Birkenstock, sigh, these I leave on my back patio for whenever I’m just hanging out back there or taking the dogs to the potty. They are literally the easiest shoes on the planet, and I also wear them to the beach! I just bought my Tevas and they are my new favorite dog-walking shoes. My feet no longer get hot and they take .3 seconds to put on. They’re also cute (I bought the colorblock).
So this is essentially the comfort clothes I’ll be wearing for the rest of our summer 90% of the time. Because when I’m hot, I just can’t even…
